This is worth looking at: horses can’t handle a number of foods we’ve seen ponies eat on the show.
 
That doesn’t say much about meat-eating, though; like deer, horses can easily digest meat, and will eat it when they can get it. Horses don’t seek out meat, though, and it isn’t nutritionally necessary for them. Equestrian ponies are apparently able to eat both all human foods and all horse foods, so they could doubtless eat meat if they wanted to – but I’d be astonished if they ever did.
 
It’s probably safe to say that meat-eating is socially taboo in Equestria and possibly a serious crime; and that most Equestrians would be physically ill if they tried to eat meat. (See this, for example.)

Horses ain’t good at digesting cake and chocolate, last I heard from multiple threads. I actually think the first I recall these talks was on Ponibooru. XD

I’m not sure that’s a good idea Twilight. As far as I know ponies aren’t really that good at digesting meat, but what do I know about magical cartoon ponies?
