Description

“The strong own everything whilst the weak own nothing. It is not yours if you cannot stop it from being taken from you.” - General Thundercloud.

If the Skies had ever created a living joke for it to laugh at, for others to sip wine and snicker or chortle into their cup by just thinking about it, then it would be Fluttershy the Meek. Born as the eldest child under two military legends, Fluttershy was the one that would inherit her mother’s fortunes and thus had the biggest pressure placed on her.

However, the early days were fine. Fluttershy felt fine. Her father brought her up more on the ground than in the air, showing her the many different species of trees and flowers. He always liked nature. Her mother watched with annoyance. She wanted to bring her up on weapons and crossbows, to teach her dragon hunting, but her father disliked it. One night, Fluttershy woke up to her two parents fighting. Her father barged into her room and merely gave her one sad look before walking out of the house without a single word to his daughter. Fluttershy never saw him again.

And so, Fluttershy’s life went into a downward spiral. At school, she wasn’t like the other pegasi. They were taught about weapons and fighting and flying, but Fluttershy preferred the ground and finding other ways to fix issues besides using brute force. The only thing she was even slightly interested in was tactics, but besides that, Fluttershy did most of her learning in the library, where she read books on animals. The other pegasi would whisper and point, and mutter under their breath, “Lander…”

And that is what everypony saw her as: a pitiable weakling who had no right to bear her wings. Everypony guessed that Fluttershy would never be allowed into the military as a conscript - she would be dismissed as too weak and be allowed to miss Essential Service. She, if lucky, perhaps would work in one of the many neglected fields of labour, such as building or farming. But as the conscripts came forward to sign their name, every head turned as Fluttershy the Meek, head held high but with watery eyes, lined up with them.
