PoR is a sequel to the Sega Genesis title Bloodlines. That game was often overshadowed by the much more popular and famous Super Castlevania 4 for the SNES. But it was a game with great music nevertheless.

Yeah, I played Bloodlines on an emulator years ago. It was pretty fun for what it was, but I personally prefer the more open-ended Castlevanias myself.

If Julius Belmont is still kicking major vampire asses in his 50s.
Imagine him during his prime.
Also, if Sunset and Twilight are Jonathan and Charlotte.
Would Rarity and Sweetie Belle make great Stella and Loretta?

Really though. Julius is stated to be the strongest of the Belmonts, a clan that was once banished from Transylvania for being frighteningly strong. If playing as that guy in the prime of his life doesn’t sound awesome, then I don’t know what would.

And I dunno. I haven’t played PoR (though I really want to play it, along with DoS & OoE).

Another thing to note about this game was that it was the last appearance of Dracula ever in a game before the mentioned Demon Castle War where Dracula was finally destroyed by Julius Belmont in 1999 which was never made into a game. Timeline wise

Considering how Dracula was being a dick to humanity from 1094 (Lament of Innocence) until his demise in 1999, and also considering how Portrait of Ruin takes place in 1944, it’s not hard at all to believe that PoR was Dracula’s last living chronological appearance in the series.

I think it’d be nice to get a game starring a young Julius Belmont, wherein you get to put Dracula down for the count||, pun intended||. But, we’re probably never getting it.
Let’s just hope Bloodstained turns out well, unlike a certain other KickStarted spiritual successor game that I will not mention by title.
