Oh he’s definitely a dick, I just … have a pretty good idea what he’s going (or rather, went, show’s over) through in that aspect, to make a long story short.
 
… but he’s edgy, funny, plenty of attractive qualities– which is why so many people got sucked into his vortex, so of course people are gonna adopt him as a role model. Doesn’t make him a good one though.

OK…? That he has an “excuse” doesn’t make him any less of a dick. And he might not be intended to be a role model, but that doesn’t stop people from taking him as one.

… Oh yeah, and you try living in debilitating chronic pain. Doesn’t exactly facilitate a sunny disposition, I can tell you that. I may not exactly share the man’s world view, but I personally sympathize with him on that front… I don’t think he was ever meant to be portrayed as a role model though.

I know this is an old image, but that’s a quote from Dr. Taub… Season 4, episode 13, “No More Mr. Nice Guy”. Instead of “bronyism” he says “five dollars”. Was directed at Kutner, who didn’t believe that the patient’s extreme niceness was a symptom of his underlying condition. Doesn’t really make any sense to me in this context though…

House is the perfect example of why being a dick doesn’t pay off. He’s in a constant state of drug-addled depression, lives for only one pathetic little purpose and is hated by everyone. His only remaining friend went through hell to put up with his shit, and now he’s dead.
 
Funny show, but if you’re using House as a role model, I pity you.

being nice generally results in profit of many kinds. It’s not instantaneous but it’s ultimately more quantifiable and of better quality. It’s not fate. If you are good to people as a general rule they are good back to you. It’s not philosophy, it’s not wishful thinking, it’s a practical method that has results that you can measure. Just because every action you do has a delayed reaction, doesn’t mean that being a douche actually pays off. being an asshole only pays off with certain activities, in certain places, with certain people. Being nice tends to benefit everywhere. True it doesn’t work everytime, no method does, but it pays off a lot more often than being an ass. just because being an ass has an instant result people think it works. ask the nice people if they are satisfied with their lives. they usually say yes contently. ask the assholes if they are and they say of course i am, why wouldn’t i be, what a stupid question. if you can’t tell the difference between those two you might as well be ignorant.
