Background/Personality:

Princess Serena is the only child of Mirror King Sombra and Princess Celestia. After the sacrifice of Mirror King Sombra in his world, Princess Celestia returned to her own world, never again to see her love. Although grief stricken by this thought, the birth of their daughter brought peace and happiness to the sun princess. During her infant years, Princess Serena brought joy to the ponies of Equestria, all of whom loved their newest princess. Princess Serena spent her childhood like her mother hundreds of years ago: under the lessons of Starswirl who after years of journeying across Equestria, returned to Canterlot to advise the new princesses, first Princess Flurry Heart and then Princess Serena. Under both Starswirl and Princess Celestia herself, Serena learned both magic and politics, favoring the later more. Although a magically gifted unicorn, Serena preferred to use words to solve her problems, especially through political case studies given to her during her lessons. From ancient treaties to modern elections, and even as a child Serena preferred learning diplomacy. By the princess’s teenage hood, Princess Celestia took her daughter’s political lessons further through intense political study. During one lesson in which Princess Celestia presented an old political case that could never be resolved, Serena managed to do such that, resulting in a cutie mark. When Serena reached adulthood, Princess Celestia brought the political lessons into the real world, bringing her daughter to various diplomatic meetings with both citizens of Equestria and beyond. Just as Princess Celestia predicted, Serena excelled in these meetings, bringing peace and compromise. Serena continues to bring peace and serenity to diplomatic issues that arise, forging new relations for her mother’s kingdom.

The political lessons throughout Serena’s teenage hood helped mask the princess’s weaknesses: as a princess, Serena needed to show both mental and physical strength, the later something the frail princess could never master. Serena was born weak and frail, resulting from what doctors could never diagnose, but Princess Celestia only concluded as a result of her mirrored conception. When Serena was not studying, she was most of the time in her chambers recovering from exhaustion. Serena never let this get the better of her though, and despite her fainting episodes, she continued to attempt at showing strength to the public.

Unlike what most ponies perceive, what one sees with Princess Serena is what is true. Both in the public and private eye, Serena is a regal beauty with charm and demure. Being raised under a watchful eye, Serena could not show any rash or dramatic behavior, which does not really suit a diplomat anyway. Serena’s most prominent quality is her peaceful nature: no pony has ever heard Serena raise her voice beyond a careful wisp, and no pony has seen the princess show any anger or disgust. Serena’s smile warms a room, and rumor has it that Serena radiates like the sun her mother raises: whether that is a reality has yet to be discovered.

Relationships:

Princess Serena is incredibly close to her mother since the grey unicorn is all Princess Celestia has connecting to her love, Mirror King Sombra. Both mares also have multiple things in common, including the love of sunny days, tea times, cake, reading, and snuggling by a warm fire at night while looking at the moon and stars.

Serena is close to her Aunt Luna and cousin Somnium, whom she sees as more of a brother than merely a cousin. With both being royal heirs, Serena and Somnium spent many of their lessons together, although Serena seemed to excel more than the prince who would rather day dream. Serena also adores little Aurora: the princess serves as the bat pony’s unofficial babysitter, and both love reading a good book and playing hide and seek in the royal garden.

With the royal families being so close, Serena sees the other royal children as her own familial relatives. Princess Flurry Heart and Princess Dawn Dreamer, being close to her age and share similar interests, are frequent guests of Princess Serena. Dawn Dreamer and Serena share a closer bond however because both are princesses without being alicorns, thus being comrades in condition.

Special:
  • Princess Serena’s cutie mark is a pair of olive branches with a sun-shaped flower in the middle. The mark symbolizes Princess Serena’s talent in peace and forgiveness, as well as her connection to the sun. Serena gained
this cutie mark in her later teenage years after successfully solving a political case study during her studies.
  • Serena is quite frail and fragile: the princess seems to experience multiple fainting episodes after extraneous activities, although she will never admit needing a respite. As a result, Princess Celestia ordered more guards to
    protect Serena.
  • Serena loves visiting the shops and restaurants of Canterlot. Although the princess would never admit to a favorite place, Serena does frequent the Tasty Treat more than other restaurants.
  • Despite her physical weakness, Serena loves to dance and will hold balls simply to dance with others. Serena even teaches dance to other noble children.
  • Serena knows that unless she becomes an alicorn, she will age and pass on before her mother: however, she also knows the ancient rules of alicorn magic and would not attempt to tempt fate simply to be with her mother forever.
