One thing I’ve learned about shipping is that while we can appreciate a lot of ships, there are only a few that truly resonate with us and produce a feeling of “rightness” that translates into those ships becoming our favorites. Naturally, different ships produce this feeling for different people. ^_^
Aj along with Dash and Rarity belong to “aw hell no is Discord, again!” crowd, Twilight is the one actually dealing with him while Flutetrshy is the only one being nice to him. Pinkie is siding with twilight although still having fun with his magic. I predict this is how S5 is going to look like
Discolight is the more likely of the two, since Discord really likes hanging out and messing with Twilight. Strangely, I’ve never been a huge fan of that ship. DOn’t get me wrong. I’ve read plenty of good fics of the pair and seen some talented artists tell it.
Yet, for some odd reason, I never became a ‘true’ shipper of it.
I think perhaps while writing Love Needs No Reason, I just fell so much in love with AJ/Discord, that I like it more. It’s certainly an interesting dynamic that probably won’t ever be that well shown in the show, sadly enough.
I don’t understand why is Fluttercord fighting with Dislestia over a place as the canon ship when Discolight is clearly more canon that Dislestia and the show is only giving Fluttercord and DiscoLight shipping fuel while Celestia had like 5 second interaction with him throughout 3 seasons.
Personally, I’ve fallen completely in love with the DiscoLight ship. I’ve always felt that Twilight’s significant other should be someone who’s on par with her magically and intellectually, and Discord more than fills that role. That, and they’ve had quite a bit of in-show interaction, with Discord seeming to have taken a personal interest in Twilight at times.
Lopoddity’s artwork of the pairing also contributed towards it being one of my favorite ships.
I think he would need to save her life somehow, but also not be the cause of her being in danger in the first place
Discord is honestly a tough character to ship because of how off the wall he is. There are some possible ships that you could ‘easily’ do, I stress easily, with the two sisters {some past history or something}, Fluttershy {though I think they work better as friends/Fluttershy as a surrogate mother figure}, or possibly Pinkie. {I like to think Discord as her cool Uncle honestly.}
With that said, any ship can work well with the right parts. Heck, I ship Discord with Applejack and how I got it started was with Discord getting hit in the head with an Apple and taking it as a sign that Applejack was his one. It’s both ludicrous and honestly something in character for him. Spontaneity is his thing. Still, he has to work for Applejack and in doing so, it actually enforces the feelings.

As for him and Dashie, it’d be cute and a little easier. He’d have to be the one to start it though, since I sincerely doubt Dash would go for him unless he did something really impressive.
Personally, I think that the viability of any given ship (speaking strictly of ships that will never be addressed in canon) is directly proportional to the thought and imagination that the author puts into it.
There’s a limit to how many ships that rule can justify.

I seen some too. But they were too artificial and with no substance. They went something like that
No explanation what she likes in him, nothing what would interest Discord. He doesn’t seem to care about sports, she isn’t too smart for his mind games to impress him. That ship need good writers to work out.

Most people would think that’s a good reason not to ship them.
