Well I learned something new today (though in hindsight it makes sense), is estrus stopped by the onset of pregnancy, then and not mere stimulation?

Masturbating in heat does nothing to real-life horses; all it does is make the symptoms worse. They need a stallion to get rid of what is essentially biological rape that removes any agency—because they’re animals and not people like they are in MLP.
