I don’t know about AJ knowing Trenderhoof could never be into Rarity, nor AJ caring about Rarity crushing hard on him as she’s done that with others. I think AJ also saw that Rarity was changing herself a lot and not being honest with her true nature, so AJ used the same treatment on her and got her to see what her friends were seeing.
Well yeah I guess you have a point there. That’s probably just because the population seems mostly female and Rarity loves pretty girly things, but I guess it’s possible that’s an added perk for her if she’s into that.
I don’t think Rarity “making fun of her” had anything to do with it. AJ cares about Rarity (even just as friends not even saying shipping) and knew Trenderhoof wasn’t into her at all while Rarity was crushing hard on him so she was trying to snap her out of it. Beyond that Rarity was in charge of coordinating the Ponyville festival and was spending all her time on worrying about Trenderhoof so AJ was trying to get her to focus on what was important.

It’s cool, I get it. I’m not saying Rarity is non-hetero for sure but I personally just think if she wasn’t straight it wouldn’t be just a cut and dry thing for her.
I apologize, the shipping wars have gotten to me in the worst ways.

Last pony huh? And yet most of the time she spends working on the dimensions of a mare’s body and making stuff for them. Well AJ and RD probability has most of what Rarity is looking for in a gentlemen stallion I guess.

Rarity was hanging around the property making fun of AJ and her family’s livelihoods. So extreme measures were needed.
I didn’t say that. I said if Rarity was gay or bi, she’d probably have a hard time admitting it, or she really genuinely might not realize it herself at first, because she’s never let the thought enter her mind. If you know people in the LBGT community, you’ll know that’s actually something that happens in real life to real people sometimes. People who’ve married (straight) and sometimes even had kids only to come out later as gay or bi happens surprisingly often. Either they tried to live a straight life and deny their identity out of social pressure (plenty of gays are still disowned by their families when they come out) or sometimes in the case of bisexual people they genuinely don’t realize they’re bi until they find themselves romantically attracted to someone of the same sex later in life. It happens more often than you’d think. Shipper and fan mentality has nothing to do with it.
AJ actually spends most of the episode trying to snap Rarity out of her act and get her to come to her senses, to the point she parades around in a frou frou outfit to get her attention.
She’s perfectly happy to focus on work in an effort to annoy Trebderhoof when he’s around though, yeah.
That almost sounds like you’re trying to say “She’s a lesbian, but doesn’t want to admit it, even if she knows deep down it’s true” and sounds like pure fanfic material and nothing else.
I don’t get why people feel the need to make up theories like that.
I don’t think that, personally. I’m pretty sure Rare had a genuine crush on Trender, it was really obvious. I just think she’s gotten close to AJ and has grown fond of her but if she does have feelings she probably hasn’t even realized it yet. Rarity would probably be the last pony to realize it if she was gay or bi… she’s too busy focusing on being a perfect lady who’s obsessed with handsome stallions to admit anything else to herself.
I accept it as that, but the amount of people who read too deep into it were everywhere when the episode first came out.

Why can’t people accept that AJ was just speechless at that moment?
I’m talking about that one episode. Pretty sure I said so.
My own personal interpretation/headcanon is they’ve both grown to be kind of into each other as they’ve gotten closer as friends (you’re right about Rarity but Applejack also enjoys getting a rise out of her and took care of her in Magic Duel and stuff). That’s just my opinion though.
Don’t remind me of all the people using it as ‘proof’ that AJ is lesbian or something just to justify their dumb ships.
People can’t ever just enjoy a ship without trying to make it out to be superior to every other ship.
Wait, so then Rarity is using Trenderhoof as an excuse to be around AJ? But she doesn’t seem to realize that Trend is into AJ until they go to the farm…
If you take that interpenetration, why is it that Rarity puts herself so much in Applejack’s presences rather than the other way around? I don’t recall Applejack inviting herself along when Rarity went shopping or when Rarity needed to go to another town on family business; or Applejack having a framed photo of Rarity by her bedside.
If anything it’s Rarity that’s into AJ.
I’m not saying I think this is supposed to be the canon interpretation, but if you watch the ep with the idea that AJ has some more than platonic interest in Rarity it all fits perfectly too. Someone told me that and I was kind of amazed when I tried it.
Well, keep in mind that Trenderhoof’s approach was nothing short of harrassment. I doubt many girls wanna go out with someone who follows them around constantly to the point where they feel forced to hide :P
Huh, never noticed that… But dang, ain’t that quite the possibility? AJ denying Trenderhoof because she’s not interested in stallions.

Then there’s the matter of AJ’s ambiguous unfinished confession at the end of the episode. Boy is that open to interpretation.
She could be Bi, she probably is.
The immense irony of that is that this is from one of the two eps that actually confirms that Rarity is interested in stallions (Trenderhoof). (Tho I guess it doesn’t explicitly deny a possible interest in mares…)
