It’s hard to really see Nyx as a Mary Sue, she eventually removed the “curse” making her supporters believe what they did, which I can only see is being the reason. She made mistakes, nearly died, and was extremely shy when a filly. Although a well liked OC, was far from a Mary Sue.

The only definition of “Mary Sue” that can be even applied to this character is “character that at least one person doesn’t like”.

Only as far as quality of writing is concerned. Within the context of the universe in which you exist, you’re awesome.

Even in Past Sins, she’s not a total mary sue. If you include some of the side stories, she’s even less of a mary stue.

That seems a bit unfair to the character. I mean I think she has one episode where she talks (well that’s what I remember anyway, so correct me if I’m wrong) and that’s it, the other times we see her she is more or less a background pony.
 
I suppose that is true. Though we also must keep in mind the good folks who dislike the story because of the story itself and not its fan that hype it to Hell and back.

I don’t know I just see a lot of twist hate around here and ponychan. It’s weird, she’s just a stereotypical nerd girl and they get their panties in a bunch over it, some even drop her under Diamond Tiara as the worst filly in the show. (that was my reason for pointing that out about Nyx’s appearance.)  
It’s a strange fic all round, or the hubbub around it is. I reckon if so many who don’t read that many fics didn’t say it was their favourite, you also wouldn’t have so many frothing-at-the-mouth haters, it would just be swept under a rug and ignored like with Ponyfall or the average ooc ship fic. 90% of other alicorn characters are worse, but it’s harder to notice them since the only one doing any sort of promotion is the original creator and no one else.

V Ah, makes sense I suppose. Though I do find it somewhat amusing in an ironic sense that Bronies, who’s basic catch phrase is ‘love & tolerate’, are so quick to hate on Nyx because of her over enthusiastic fans. Ironic in the way because that’s why a lot of people on the internet hate Bronies and MLP.
 
On a semi-related note, while I do like Nyx I will admit I feel the headband on her disguise seems a little unnecessary. The vest and the enchanted glasses are to hide Nyx’s wings and eyes respectively which makes sense for obvious reasons, so why the headband? Well I suppose it was because Rarity was acting a bit out of character during that scene, that’s one point, but I want to know the reason behind the author’s idea to include a headband. Does he like headbands, did he think it would add a little more character to Nyx’s appearance or something? I don’t know, just a little nitpick of mine.
 
Also, why does Twist get hate? What did she do? :\

It’s mostly because she gets thrust into their faces so much I think. Her fanbase is to brony what the rest of 4chan thinks pony are to the rest of the net. tl;dr it ain’ you particularly, Nyx, it’s your fans. Though how you dress isn’t help matters much either, there’s already a lot of Twist hate too. So you come off as a pitch-black Twist Alicorn with a rabidly annoying hugbox-happy fanbase. Also your existence kind of trolls Luna lovers too. So yeah there’s three major strikes other retarded alicorn OCs don’t have.

I’m in awe of the sheer hate this little filly OC gets. I mean I get people not liking Nyx or even out right hating her, I get that I really do. Everyone has a right to an opinion. But to my confusion this one OC gets so much hate and she isn’t really that bad. I’m noting saying that because I like Nyx, which I do, I’m saying it because there are a lot more terrible OCs out there and even worse fanfics.
 
And yet this is the OC people like to hate on. This is the one some Bronies like to write/draw getting tortured, murdered, or just plain abused. THIS is the one who has rustled the jimmies. Even the worse non-MLP related fanfics don’t create the kind of reaction that Nyx has. And that really confuses me.

The Mane Six are asked to watch his house while he’s gone for the day and while there, Twilight stumbles upon the sliver which absorbs a strand of hair from her mane. This creates Nyx. Nyx is adopted by Twilight and she takes her with her back to her tree. After a while, Nyx becomes acquainted with the others. While on a field trip to Canterlot, Nyx is forced into running away by Chrysalis disguised as Twilight and she releases Discord who is more interested in Nyx than the Changeling Queen to awaken his pet Leviathan named Rex. Nyx is attacked by a hydra that wandered into the labyrinth after the Leviathan gets set loose and inadvertently releases it into the labyrinth. Nyx, after being rescued by Twilight, decides to give into her NNM side and goes off to join Celestia, Luna and Chrysalis (who has formed a temporary alliance with the two because even she has standards) and Nyx, even though she fights hard and helps defeat Discord, is gravely injured and reverts back into a foal. She is allowed to stay by Luna and Celestia and becomes Twilight’s permanent daughter.

Wait, you compared Nyx to Bella Swan? Nyx at least has personality to that (and I am quoting the Nostalgia Critic) selfish, pretentious, male dependent, dumbest, uncaring, manipulative, whiny, little bitch-bag that I swear is more of a self-insert character of Stephanie Meyer in a bad fanfiction”.

I agree with D715. That story even sounds plausible.  
Problem is, Penstroke went for the ‘Oh look, a cute foal YOU GOTTA LOVE IT CAUSE FOAL AND CUTE’  
As if he/she wasn’t able to write a likable character that was the reincarnation of NMM, so simply the base of ‘Oh look, everypony likes foals and will gasp once I start abusing her in the story.’
 
Also, I still think the idea of a cult wanting to revive NMM is silly.  
Why, should anypony at all, want NMM back? Also, if they REALLY wanted her back, they would’ve greeted her as Luna came back from the moon and still was a full blown NMM. If she would’ve had a cult at THAT POINT, I think the entire Nyx thing wouldn’t have had to happen.
 
The fact, that so many little things could’ve avoided the drama in the story so easily just make me feel as if it was inserted, simply because the story had to continue. Past Sins = Nyxabuse.
