I’ve been meaning to develop the story of these three and answer questions about them for a while so in order not to clutter my main blog with it, this will be the place for all that stuffIf you’re not familiar with these characters, you can find some background story here (>>1347459) and here (>>1444371 and >>1444372)Warning: This blog is safe for work BUT it may contain adult topics and content at times

I had a very dominated childhood and I still have moments like that. I love the sense of purpose and direction and making my parents proud of me.
With sophisticated techniques I mean talking to them in a clear fashion and going through their past crimes in a way that makes them think carefully and understand why it’s wrong. Instead of just yelling at them or accusing them of being bad. Parenting is a skill with many tricks and techniques and intelligence is a great boon to learning those.
You also said that they would worry about things that wouldn’t occur to a dummer person but that’s not necessarily a good thing either. It means a child could have problems and the parent just doesn’t notice or can’t deduce the reason.
Intelligence is the ability to think on a higher plane and consider more factors. It also affects thinking speed.
“well, it’s not known to me, for one. I thought intelligence came from a diverse combination of genes that lurk within the genome of the less than intelligent, not causing intelligence on their own. they are very unlikely to be perfectly passed on, unless both parents have exactly the same intelligence genes. and even with one of those combination of genes leading to intelligence, there’s the environment of the womb for brain development, and a number of traumatic and deranging things that can mess up your brain after you’re born.”
If intelligence is brought on by genes it’s heritable. Simple as that. The complexities are true and intelligent parents and not sure to have intelligent children but it’s highly likely.
If womb conditions affect the brain’s growth in any significant way it very rarely leaves it able to function. Also events later in life don’t affect your intelligence. However it does affect your ability to use that intelligence.
You are right in that a large difference in intelligence between parent and child can make things harder but my point is that this goes both ways. A highly intelligent child being raised by a not very intelligent parent also suffers. They usually can’t be disciplined because they learn how to manipulate their parents and the parent is unable to support or talk with them about many of their activities. Which often leaves them feeling isolated.
I more think an intelligent parent is a boon as long as they are willing to put in the effort. However if a parent is not willing to put effort into their child they are a bad parent either way.

you can find barely statistically significant support for the idea that smart parents lead to smart children, but mostly it’s just smart parents trying for the best odds, which still aren’t all that great.
I also said that you need to actually also put in the effort to use your intelligence. Also what exactly do you consider a “childhood”? Restricting the activities they need to have simply because of your own ideology is not a very intelligent decision to make.
What you are describing is someone having a lot of resources but not using them intelligently.
“diamond tiara’s problem isn’t that her parents aren’t smart. it’s that they don’t love her.”
Yeah, I still don’t like that idea as DT’s attitude just doesn’t match it. If they were neglectful she would be much more bitter and aggressive and have low self-esteem because she would be feeling unwanted. DT has very high self-esteem and has a relaxed and independent way of thinking. That independent spirit that she is hints that she has sway at home and her high self-esteem means she feels important at home as well.
“CITATION NEEDED”
Seriously? That intelligence is passed down from one generation to the next is known to all.
“I mean I dunno if intelligence is necessary to be a good parent, doesn’t seem like it to me, but I didn’t exactly do research or anything to verify that.”
I wouldn’t say intelligence is needed to be a good parent but it is needed to become a skilled parent.

yeah, you use sophisticated rearing techniques, then the kid is a lonely bitter adult who spent their entire childhood in school activities and supervised enrichment to prepare for the future, and now they don’t get to have a childhood at all. intelligence is amazing, but it can be such a trap… you think you’ve got it all figured out, and only in hindsight you realize you were outsmarting yourself the whole time.
I mean I dunno if intelligence is necessary to be a good parent, doesn’t seem like it to me, but I didn’t exactly do research or anything to verify that.
diamond tiara’s problem isn’t that her parents aren’t smart. it’s that they don’t love her.
CITATION NEEDED
I disagree. You don’t need intelligence to be a loving parent but you do need it to become a good parent. If you are not very intelligent you can’t use sophisticated rearing techniques. Derpy is a loving mother but I do see her as not a ultra good one because of her soft nature and lack of intelligence. You are right though in that being intelligent but not using it productively can become a major hinderance.
Also pushing a child towards acadamic excellence usually makes a child more happy. Of course like with everything you can do it too much but children need direction and focusing their efforts towards a goal helps them feel important and like they matter. Also if you make school out to be very important a child will do so as well. However again that is only if the parent is willing to put in that effort.
“or worry about stuff that wouldn’t even occur to a dumber person” on the other hand it could also be that your child is having problems but you can’t figure out what it is and assume they are just being naughty.
“your kid has to struggle to comprehend you, and that can lead to conflict over rules” not comphrehending means a lack of social skills not intelligence. Also intelligence is genetic so that problem will only really arise if you have a highly intelligent parent and a not very intelligent child. The reverse though is potentially more damaging as a highly intelligent child can quickly learn how to manipulate and fool their parent. This removes most of the authority of the parent which is really bad.
Before and actually still somewhat I see Diamond Tiara as an example of a child very far above her parents in intellgence. She knows how to scheme and manipulate and doesn’t care at all what others think or say about her.
Being intelligent means you can see paterns in your child that could signal problems and can make you better at coming up with solutions. Also in our modern world administration and social talks is a big part of being a parent and intelligence is key there. This is doubly so if you have a handicapped child who would get social benefits. The reason many handicapped people who make it big still come from upper class is because only they have the parents who have the intelligence to navigate the incredibly complicated system of budgets and agencies.

It’s close to some Real life situations… It isn’t that bad compared to what I’ve seen/know…
Or just doesn’t understand just yet. Given from what I can tell, her exposure is limited to this so she can’t learn much just yet.
equestria’s best mother is derpy for a reason. to be a good parent you have to feed a kid, and house them, and love them, but intelligence really isn’t required. it ends up getting in the way, making you second guess yourself, or worry about stuff that wouldn’t even occur to a dumber person. your kid has to struggle to comprehend you, and that can lead to conflict over rules, or misunderstandings. there are mental traps that snare intelligent people easier, that all sound like “you should” and are very reasonable arguments for doing stupid things like constant supervision, or pressure towards academic achievement, or giving up on this stupid world because you brilliantly deduced that everything’s pointless.
I mean, lots of smart people are good parents, but it doesn’t really help things, and can be a possible hindrance in many ways. about the only advantage is intelligence might make it easier to get food and shelter for them. even that can be harmful, if powerful people want an intelligent person like you to be working all the time, and not getting a chance to raise your own kid.
How do you figure?
not being a moron makes it harder to be a good parent.
See, but if you look at her past, she’s not a moron. She’‘s smart, she’s just socially challenged and needs to get a grip on her life.
it might have something to do with her complaining about having to take care of her daughter more than once a month. call me crazy.

Also, I ♥ BOOP O’ ROOPS! :D
Edited because: Syntax will be the end of me.
Huh, story of my life
Jk
In the “lore” she got drunk one night I think with that other dood and they fucked.
if it were as simple as that, then we would have gone extinct a long time ago.
If she cares abut her dream so much, she wouldn’t bare a child. If you don’t want it, use protection
