I’d agree with you if they took the entire, unaltered piece, and posted it as is without crediting the artist. However, they took one frame from an animation, and used it to make a joke.
Again, if that’s all it took to count as an art thief, most posters on this site are art thieves.
By not giving credit, they are indeed claiming that they made it.
So what? It’s not like they’re trying to claim they made it. By that very same logic, anybody who uses any kind of art, without crediting the original artist, from any source, for any reason, is an art thief.
IE: Every vector artist, every meme artist, and every single person who uses a screencap from any TV show; to name just a few.
In fact, OP would count as a double thief, since they “stole” from two different artists.
If you go to the source, the person who mashed these two pics together did not bother to credit Ponut Joe, the artist of the Sonata pic.
