Artist commentary from the DeviantART page, for the sake of completeness.

It was Turquoise Blitz’s first day at school in Ponyville as he and his family just moved back from Canterlot. His mother had become a huge success in the fashion industry and opened an extension to her boutique in Canterlot. But now, she had other ponies working there under her so she decided it would be better to move back home since it was a much more “friendly” environment for her kids to grow up in. Although it was friendlier, sometimes it didn’t feel like it at all.

It was recess time and everyone began rushing out of the classroom, eager to play. T on the other hand was a little less excited. He didn’t really know anypony and was aware that he was very different from everypony else. He was almost out of the door when somepony ran into him from behind.

“Move it Scales,” said a young colt who was with two other foals

“I-I’m sorry I…,” T started but wasn’t able to finish as the three continued outside.

“What a freak,” said one of the other foals as they left the classroom. He didn’t think T would hear him but he did. T continued outside also, sadder than he already was.

Unsure of what to do or where to go, T just started walking not wanting to stay in one place where the other kids could come and mess with him. His head hung low as he slowly walked through the playground.

After going around the playground for quite some time, T lost himself in his thoughts and went a little off track. Oblivious to where he was he tripped over something.

“Ouch,” said a little filly. “Oh, I’m sorry,” she continued, realizing someone had just tripped on her.

“N-no, it’s my fault,” T replied, now out of his trance.

“Are you alright?” the filly asked.

“Um, yeah,” T said surprised that she was concerned for his well being. By now, most other foals would have gotten angry at him.

“What’re you doing all the way back here?” T looked around. He was way behind the school building and he didn’t even realize it.

“Oh, I was just walking around. I guess I didn’t notice where I was going. I kinda have a lot on my mind.”

“Well do you want to talk about it? I’m a good listener,” said the unicorn filly with a warm smile.

“Well you probably already noticed that I look really weird. And I have no friends here because of that.”

“Actually I didn’t notice at all.” Now T was really surprised.

“Y-you didn’t?”

“Well, you sound normal to me. I can’t really see you since I’m blind though,” she replied.

“Oh, I’m sorry! I didn’t know!”

“It’s alright,” she said with a giggle. “My name’s Anthea by the way.”

“I’m Turquoise Blitz. Most ponies call me T though.”

“That sounds like a Pegasus name. Are you a Pegasus?”

“Um…well…”

“I have an idea! How about we play a little game? I’ll try guess what you look like by asking questions and you have to answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Okay?

“Okay,” T said as he sat down to get comfortable knowing she’d never be able to guess what he looked like.

“Alright, let’s start with your mane. Is it spiky?”

“Yes”

“And it’s probably turquoise right? Your name is Turquoise after all.”

“Yep, it’s a little more on the green side though. My eyes are turquoise.”

“Aw don’t tell me, I gotta guess,” Anthea said.

“Oops, my bad.”

“Kay now your coat… It’s probably a different shade of green or something. I don’t think your parents would give you a color name if you were many different colors.” Her deductive reasoning was amazing.

“Wow you’re good,” T said.

“Now what type of pony are you? Pegasus?”

“Nope.”

“Unicorn?”

“No.”

“Ah so an Earth pony then.”

“Not quite.”

“What? But those are the only types of ponies. Unless…are you an Alicorn?” Anthea asked a little in shock.

“Nope, how ‘bout I tell you what I look like now?”

“Yes please. I’m stumped”

“Well I have a spiky, dark greenish mane, a light green coat and turquoise eyes.”

“Alright, I got those already.”

“I also have hoof claw things, a long tail and also some scales. Oh, yeah and I have bat wings.”

Anthea paused for a bit. “What are you?”

“Well my mother is a pony and my father is a dragon, so I guess the best way to describe me is a dragon-pony hybrid.”

Anthea paused again letting everything process for a minute. “That’s sooooo cool!”

“What?” T asked. “So you still don’t think I’m weird?”

“Not at all! You sound so cool! I mean how many ponies get to have a dragon for a dad?” T had the hugest smile on his face now.

“Though I don’t know what ‘hoof-claws’ are. Can I feel them? It helps me get an idea of what they’d look like since I’ve been blind my whole life.”

“Sure,” said T as he held out his arm to her. She leaned over and used her horn to explore his interesting hoof.

“It feels like a regular hoof to me,” she said. Turquoise then opened them up so they felt like claws. Anthea jumped a little, not expecting that at all. “Whoa.”

“Sooooo, you said you were blind your whole life?” Turquoise asked in an attempt to get to know the filly.

“Mmhm.”

“So do you know what you look like?” he asked curiously. She sat back down.

“Not really,” she replied.

“W-well, I could tell you what you look like if you want me too.”

“Really? That’d be so nice,” she said happily.

“Well you have a long, light green mane, light blue eyes and a light pink coat,” he said.

“I sound a lot less interesting that you do,” Anthea said as she giggled.

“Well, you’re really pretty so that’s a plus,” he said without really thinking. It just slipped.

“You think I’m pretty?” she asked, blushing a little.

“I um… well…ah…y-yeah… I do.”

Anthea laughed at how embarrassed he was getting. “Thank you. I think you’re quite handsome.” Turquoise had never heard those words from anyone other than his mother.

“Thanks,” he replied.

They talked to the end of recess and for the rest of the school year, they would go behind the school building during the breaks and just talk like any two, good friends would.
