In that specific case it was just Shiny and Cadance getting especially kinky together with a particularly lewd slime monster. They didn’t realize it was one that actually bred with other creatures to reproduce, and that the offspring could take on physical attributes of the parent. Cue older sibling for Flurry Heart :D

I follow that headcanon too, and that they have really weird kinks. It’s how Shiny is Quiddity’s father; Cadance was absolutely involved in that little union too XD

Not that it has anything to do with the pic or even much to do with the conversation), but due to Cadance’s position as the Princess of Love, many people (myself included) headcanon that her marriage to Shining as being a romantically and sexually open relationship.  
However,if you don’t like that headcanon, then that’s fine; open relationships aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.

I’ve said it in the comments here or there. She has the same potent neurotoxin as the Malaysian Coral Snake she’s colored after. I didn’t want her to just be a “nice lamia” because she was harmless (and imply the ones that were venomous were all evil or something); I wanted her to just be an inherently good person at heart and set up that lamias have the exact same capacity for good and evil that ponies do :D
