That response… Well, that’s kind of what makes me angry when I see someone say “The comics are better than the show” or “McCarhty sucks, bring Faust back.”
In the first case, I get mad because both are good in their own ways, and people claiming THIS particular arc is better than the Season 4 finale feels like they have a blind passion for Price/Cook comics and an blind hatred toward McCarthy.
And in the second case… Faust had her reasons to leave, and McCarthy is actually doing a decent job, if not a better one. There is no way things can just go back to how they used to be just because “Status Quo Is God” (reason why that trope is so hated). And in any case, look what happened when Akira Toriyama came back to Dragon Ball, and how much mixed oppinions people had of “Battle of the Gods.”

I tend to respect people’s opinion, but I can’t help but get angry when a work where bad writing is at its finest gets treated like a piece of art while a story that had effort, went for a riskier tone and pulled out something people genuinely didn’t expect get a lot of unnecessary flack. Because it makes one side feel like, even if they pull out their best people are gonna hate it guts. And the side who barely put efford is going to get more boastful and keep making poor works that will be praised just because it came from them.

There was a time when I already did lose faith in humanity.

I’ve worked in tech support, then collections. Throw in some call center customer service and retail, annnnd to tell you the truth, the fandom isn’t so bad.

Those jobs are all examples of people not at their best. If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that people act out when they’re feeling upset, frustrated, angry, or helpless. A lot of the time people do or say really stupid things because even they aren’t sure what to do with their emotions. Or they feel like they’re sure, but all they really do is decorate the walls with their own personal bullshit.

With all of those jobs, I only heard about people with problems, because they’re way more likely to speak up.

It’s kind of the same with anything, really. You might hear bitching from the same small handful of people, but you don’t hear from the satisfied thousands because they’re happy. Happy people just aren’t as vocal as upset people. Happy people may tell a friend or two, but if someone’s unhappy they’ll try to tell everyone who will listen.

Happy people do get more vocal when they feel like unhappy people are trying to shit all over their good time. It’s up to the unhappy people to make the happy people give a reason to care about the unhappy folks’ bullshit. When you’re unhappy, it’s easy to forget that not everyone feels the same way you do.

Perspective helped restore my faith in humanity quite a bit over the years. (So did non-soul-sucking jobs.)

Like, lots of friends who use Derpibooru smartly avoid the occasionally cesspool-like comments section entirely. They just prefer to look at the pretty images, then leave.

We’re all commenting on a thread about a pony comic book on a pony image site. If that doesn’t say hard-core super nerd, I’m not sure what does. Casual folks are far away from here.

It’s not bad that people have an opinion, or even a strong opinion. It’s obnoxious when people who think their opinion is the only right one and insist on shoving it down others’ throats.

It’s even worse when holders of said opinion insult anyone who disagrees with them. It doesn’t make you right. It just makes you an asshole. It then only serves to devalue your own stance.

The nitpicky as fuck comic book nerds all think their opinion is gospel (this thread in a nutshell
