This guy’s famous in the politics thread for asking or “being in fear of” a civil war breaking out in X country every time there’s any news story about X country, nevermind WW3 and nuclear war fears fueled by any little thing. The European Parliament elections are happening, don’t forget to vote for the MEPs who are against Article 13 (now Article 17)! The election is today in the UK and in the Netherlands, the rest of the EU countries vote on Sunday.
 
There is still a chance to influence the EU’s plans and to save us from this horrendous new attempt to censor the Internet. Lots of MEPs across all the EU countries are against Article 13 (now Article 17) and if they are voted into the European Parliament, they can create a new legislation that gets rid of Article 13 (now Article 17) again.

Explanation for the first link: + contains the names of those against Article 13 (now Article 17). Search for your MEPs under + and vote for them and their parties to make it into the EU parliament where they can crush and destroy the EU’s plans to censor the Internet!

If the UK votes MEPs into the EU Parliament that are against Article 13 (now Article 17), I will be glad that the UK still gets to vote. We can need every MEP who fights this shit and maybe it can get teared down before the UK ultimately leaves.

They’re a party of bigots that will go for anything that harms the EU, not just the organization, but the people in it. It’s more likely that their votes will go to whatever makes art 13/17 worse just to spite the rest of Europe.

Nnnot quite. Farage needs the Uk to be in the EU, otherwise his justification (and ability to claim expenses) disappears.
 
He makes a grand speech, but when you listen to his speeches they all sound pretty much the same. His entire motivation is to extract money and fame from a campaign to leave the EU, without ever actually leaving the EU.
 
I’m revealing my power level a little bit now (blame the wine) but I was tangentially involved with UKIP in the 90s, and I know several people who were fairly high up in the party at that time, who were driven out by Farage after he manipulated his way into power there. They - and UKIP as a whole at that point - would have been content if the EU had reformed in a direction that emphasised economic cooperation and reduced the political integration that has been pushed for the last 20ish years Under Farage, the party was twisted from a party of reformation to a party of “whatever Nigel wants to boost his ego”. He abandoned it when it became toxic to his brand and created this new “brexit party” as a clean slate.
 
I’m not joking when I say it’ll fall apart before the year is out. Farage is toxic to himself; everyone he associates with eventually finds they’re on the wrong end of a metaphorical shotgun, sacrificed to allow Farage one more day at the hustings so he can feed his endless ego.
 
But he makes a good speech and pretends to drink beer in cheap pubs when the press is watching, so people fall for him while he milks whatever public teat he’s attached his fat-lipped face to this week. He’s the consummate demagogue, only hampered in his ambition because doesn’t have the patience and self control necessary to put himself into a national leadership position, and thank fucking god for that.
 
He murdered the one decent chance we had to promote a genuine reformist movement for nations within the EU that wanted a more trade-oriented position for the bloc in preference to the political-integrationist stance that had existed prior, purely in order to serve his own narrow, selfish, arrogant interests.

Right now, what I care for is to prevent the Internet from becoming a tool of money-greedy corporations and “Do Nut Steel” artists. And I’ll support any party that will likely work to destroy Article 13 (now Article 17).  
I even considered to play devil’s advocate and vote for Austria’s far-right Freedom Party, because their top candidate for the election voted against the article, and only changed my mind about that when I found out that our Social Democratic party is very fierce about fighting the article and upload filters during more research.  
The Internet is for many things; free expression, sharing and creating art freely and even a cornerstone of democracy. If the freedom of the Internet falls, it will not only benefit those companies and “Do Nut Steel” artists, but also any political party with shady intentions. While the existence of the Internet is a threat to such parties, nothing makes it easier to organize protests and to reveal shady things than the Internet. But it needs to be free for that.  
So if you are concerned about any party doing any kind of shady things, you still have the best reason to support a party that is against Article 13 (now Article 17), regardless of what other shady stuff that party might do afterwards. They can be put down later and the Internet will help with that once it’s safe again.  
Right now, no matter the angle you look at it from, the attack on the free Internet by the EU is the biggest threat. It’s first and foremostly this that should be fought now, even if it means you have to play Devil’s Advocate for a while.

The freedom of the Internet is already compromised, ever heard of Google, Facebook and the other Internet Giants? What other Thing but the goverments can stop them? You the one Person they can silence?
 
A) Give the goverment the tool to stand against the money-greedy corporations and hope they don´t fall in their Hand  
B) Hand over the Internet to the corporations (despite they already have it.)  
C) The article 13 has already passed no Party is going to dismentle it anyway because it is way to useful for the Party in charge and the only way to get potentially rid of it is a revolutionary war with thousands of dead
