Tag Aliases - Read the first page before suggesting.

I personally see it as a ‘That Guy With The Glasses’/‘That Dude In the Suede’/‘Some Jerk With a Camera’ kind of thing where its a supposedly generic name that refers to a specific individual.

That’s exactly what you should do. Alias “Some Blue Guy” into “Curly Winds”, so that people can’t tag “Some Blue Guy” anymore, and it automatically becomes Curly Winds.

I told you, i’m not gonna alias something like that. I’ll probably manually remove the tag from every pic and then destroy it.

Erm. Does aliasing it and removing the tag afterwards not get rid of it? Do images with aliased tag not automatically get updated to have alias target instead?

Yes, but they all have both tags anyway already. Aliasing is unnecessary. Just need to remove the tag.  
And I’d rather avoid unnecessary aliases like that at all.

It seems like simply removing the tag would only kill the roaches that are already in the kitchen, whereas an alias would keep new ones from moving in.

Somehow it changed the tag from my old alias to an alias of a completely different artist.

I got good news and bad news:
 
The good is that your alias has been corrected and “artist:princessnoob” has been aliased to “artist:estrill”.
 
The bad is that, thanks to whoever derped the alias in the first place, nearly all of your images remained on the artist:easyfox7 tag and have to be corrected manually.

Maybe this would go faster if there were an interface for users to submit aliases, and you could just choose ‘yes’ or ‘no’?

That sounds like a really good idea.

But then it wouldn’t be openly posted in the court of public opinion where really bad and stupid ideas theoretically (cough sex implying shipping cough) can get shot the fuck down when they’re idiotic.

Maybe have the yes/no interface, but it still creates a post in this thread and mods can’t actually accept or decline until the submission is a few days old.
