Tagging Twilight Sparkle

The tl;dr is Twilight is an alicorn now, we need to figure out how to deal with that for tags.

By which I mean, assuming the show carries on a bit, the amount of Twilight Sparkle images that have her as an alicorn is going to grow a lot and plausibly at some point overtake that of unicorn Twilight.
 
As it stands there is no site policy on requiring tagging Princess Twilight (or ‘pt’), but people generally do because jimmies are rustled furiously at the sight of wings on Twilight. With S4 about to start, we all know that some people are going to go ballistic at the influx of twilicorn content, most of which won’t carry the Princess tag because why should it.
 
I’m not deciding on anything, so just hear me out on this. I’d like to see the creation of a Unicorn Twilight tag to be used on images where she’s clearly not an alicorn, on top of the usual Twilight Sparkle tag. Stuff where you can’t see if she has wings or not (regardless of whether we know she doesn’t) would be tagged with just Twilight Sparkle.
 
More importantly, I’d like to have a policy whereby going onto an image and complaining about the lack of said tags counts as trolling. As would going onto unicorn Twilight images to ask where her wings are or moaning about wings or whatever on twilicorn images, regardless of whether the appropriate tags were there or not. Why have such a hard policy on that? Because being exposed to the content behind those tags is absolutely not a mind-scarring event. This isn’t like suddenly seeing a gaping anus among all your cute Fluttershy images, it’s something canon straight from the show itself; if you honestly have issues with the content to the point of whining about being involuntarily exposed to it, you may want to take a step back from ponies.

I guess that would be fine, but keeping “twilight sparkle” as the tag for ambiguous/unicorn Twi and “Princess Twilight” for alicorn twilight works fine.
 
Yeah, if you really have that big of a problem you should be hiding the “princess twilight” tag.

i think as we are now is fine, you want a non wings twilight? just search “twilight sparkle, -princess twilight”.

What I want to prevent still is making either of those two tags obligatory, or allow the expectation that they absolutely should be present. Basically, no one should be going onto a twilicorn image tagged with just “twilight sparkle” and complaining about the lack of the “princess twilight”, regardless of his filters, because unfortunately for them twilicorn is canon. We shouldn’t allow the stigmatization of uploaders for not coddling to guys like that.

Hm, I want to say that I agree with you, but you know what this is going to bring us.
 
So you essentially want to slowly fade out the “princess twilight” tag? Because that is what not forcing tagging her would do unless we had a group of staunchly anti-Twilight anons going around and adding it back.

“Unicorn Twilight” is something I suggested before so I agree.
 
It’s strange. Originally, I thought I would like to see art of unicorn Twilight since I thought she looked better as a unicorn, but 9 months passed and I realized I don’t care at all. Makes me wonder how many actually block “princess Twilight”.

If that’s what you believe is best.

Well, I think maybe the best COA would just be to say that the princess twilight tag is acceptable but not mandatory. You don’t have to put it into place but, likewise, you don’t have the right to remove it on images of her as an alicorn if someone has placed it there.

While I don’t object to this idea, I would say keep them as they are. System seems to work as is.

I don’t mind the tag existing, but I do mind seeing people freak out because of its lack. Princess Twilight is what most new Twilight images are going to be. People new to the fandom, casual uploaders, etc aren’t going to be aware that it’s an issue, and I don’t want to have it be “accepted” that berating them for not having the tag is OK.
 
Expecting people to tag “S2 Luna” on any Luna image based on her S2+ appearance sounds absurd, right? Down the line expecting people to tag “Princess Twilight” is going to seem the same way.

One problem: It would be harder for butthurt to block out alicorn Twilight. Though I don’t care much for them, listening to them whine about not being able to filter out Twilicorn will be annoying.

People offended enough by this to complain on images need to realize how silly they’re being. It would be like me complaining that someone forgot to tag “alicorn amulet” on an amulet trixie images. Sure, I should add the tag, but I shouldn’t act as if someone just linked me to 1080p 2girls1cup on autoplay or something.

Hate to be “that guy” but both of the polls we’ve had in the past were so close that TSP essentially had to make the decision himself. And that was with less controversial issues than this.

I have no problem with the current system. Those who whine about seeing “alicorn Twilight” are at fault for not filtering “Princess Twilight”.

What I mean is the filtering, not the lack of tagging. Let’s say I don’t want to see alicorn Twilight. With the current tags, all I need to do is put “princess Twilight” in my filter. If someone doesn’t tag it, I can tag it myself and it will be out of my sight.
 
If it switches to “unicorn Twilight”, I have to use something like “ts, -unicorn twilight” in my filter, which we currently don’t support.
 
How about we just use “twilight sparkle” without any accompanying tag? Let them cry.

That’s sorta what I want. If you’re still filtering alicorn Twilight by now, then you might as well just leave the fandom. Cause that’s what she’s going to be from now on.

which is why stuff with Twilicon tags Also have regular Twilight tags.
 
besides changing it would mean chageting tags on ALL the regular Twilight pics.
 
just leave stuff the way it is. everything works fine, and nobody gets hurt.

I’d prefer we keep things as they are for the sake of keeping the peace.
 
I also think it should be mentioned that people who block that tag are implicitly uninvolved with alicorn drama on this site. If they’re going out of their way not to bother you about it, do such people really deserve the harshness I’m seeing here?
