I haven’t stopped, I’m just trying to find a source to get the latest episode in HD now! Heh.
Honestly, I think most of the time people think the show’s changed, it’s actually just their attitude or they’re just tired of it. Truth be told, most episodes have more complex plots with more nuance and vastly superior animation than in seasons 1 or 2, while retaining the core feelings of it. I think anyone being really objective would think the show’s improved.
Though I guess it depends on some other things, too. We get a lot less looney-tunes type stuff now - though personally I’m glad for that. I’d take “Amending Fences” over Twilight getting smashed by a hay bale, anvil and grand piano any day.
It might be getting a bit old to me - just a little. Thanks to my brother showing me some good anime I’m starting to find non-pony waifus and actually warming up to
humans. I know, weird. I honestly used to find it hard to get attached to human characters… Still easier to like ponies, but the difference isn’t nearly as great as it used to be.
When it comes to writing fanfic, there’s now so many different things to keep track of that I’d honestly rather write in the Season 1-3 setting than the current one. I love the heck out of Golden Oaks and kinda miss the more slice-of-life stuff where Twi’s not a princess.

My favorite episodes remain “Look Before You Sleep”, “Cutie Mark Chronicles”, and “Sleepless in Ponyville” - eh, not firmly so, but that first one is pretty firmly number 1 (Hey!). I just like the touching slice-of-life stuff, ya’know? It’s the most relatable. And back when she was a student I found that more relatable, too.
And she used to be more snarky and less socially skilled. I dunno if I really want to complain that the show actually has
character progression, though, but I kinda miss that. Same could be said of the CMC. Though perhaps I should just take a lesson from “Forever Filly” on this one. Ponies mature.
This has been a really good season, IMO, for mature lessons and such. I mean
real maturity.
…Again, as for Twi being a princess… She should start a friggin’ space program, already! Or “Sparkle Labs”! (like Edison or Nikola Tesla).
I know if I suddenly got great power and could levy taxes, I’d be starting some labs and maybe even a space program. She’s gotta turn in her nerd license soon if she doesn’t at least fund a great library. Though I guess maybe her castle library counts?
…though we don’t really know if she can even levy taxes or do anything. Seems almost like she’s like the modern queen of England in terms of power and such… Make that a modern
princess of England…
Though I’m glad they’ve become more aware of that and it’s not like “Rarity Takes Manehatten” (I think it was) where she couldn’t even hail a taxi. And I’m super happy “Newbie Dash” recognized how the characters have saved the world a few times.
But again, if they don’t recognize their achievements, it feels weird and unrealistic, but if they do, it makes them less relatable. Though perhaps that balance in Newbie Dash was pretty good - after all, how many people even know who
Chesley Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles are, never mind would recognize them on the street?

Expectations and preconceived notions will very strongly color your attitudes towards things.
The episode you’re thinking of is S7E7, “Parental Glideance”. It was a pretty darn cute one. It really had a feel of season 1 or 2 episodes, to me.
