IDW Comics - Story Discussion (Spoilers)

Myself, I assume that “draconequus” is by and large a pony term – an exonym that the ponies developed to describe Discord, possibly once it wasn’t common knowledge anymore that he was an actual creature as opposed to an abstract concept, but that isn’t actually used by Discord himself or others of his kind. Essentially, you would have a species of “chaos spirits”, who look like a very varied assortment of chimeric beings, and “draconequus” is simply a word that ponies developed to describe Discord based on his personal appearance but that doesn’t necessarily describe his actual species.

The Apple Pies comic was a decent read. Shame about Garbowzka’s art, but it was a decent read, even if the pie recipe would be really bland if it were baked in real life. (What can I say, I like stories involving food preparation so I always pay attention to details like that.)

Hold your tongue, Garbowzka is great. She’s one of my favorite artists on the comic.  
 

 
She has a sad tendency to be assigned to illustrate some of the worst scripts, but that’s not her fault.

I like her when she’s not going bipèdal or using backgrounds made out of straight lines and flat geometric shapes because they look like cardboard props.

I thought it was sweet how the secret ingredient was a pear. It was a good story as Applejack stories go.

I’m guessing Cosmos is supposed to be this intergalactic chimera, of sorts.

Guys, I’m just gonna say it; the Nightmare Knights arc reminds me of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Nightmare Knights #3 is worth reading just for Trixie. We need more of The Great and Powerful Trixie versus The Great and Powerful Twily.

Going by a human analogy, you could see the Nightmare Knights akin to the Beatles. Luna plays as John, Stygian is Paul, Tempest is similar to George, and Capper could very well be Ringo. As for Trixie, well, she’s… the Nowhere Man? If that counts?

I just read comic 73; it was very cute and left a smile on my face. Nothing too crazy happened, it was just Fluttershy acting feral and stuff. I liked how they handled it as a calmer story as opposed to Nightmare Knights. Don’t get me wrong, the last comic was GREAT, but I do like a bit of a calmer tale once in a while. I also liked how Spike fixed the situation in his own way. Kinda reminds me of Inspiration Manifestation, in a sense. One final note; Trixie was there. …Because reasons. XD
 
So, yeah. Cute story, but don’t expect anything too crazy.

Man, Pencils’ style is such a breath of fresh air. Even though the story wasn’t anything stellar (though I did enjoy the timberwolves), there’s something so refreshing with how the expressions are drawn and how beautiful it ends up being. I hope we’ll see more, cause this is what the series need after such a long time passed with the same artists.

You know the more I think about it, the more I realize that maybe Katie Cook was phoning it in for the Deviation issue in that she didn’t try to make it the least bit interesting and was being lazy.
