I was thinking of the Twitter trolling but interpreting things from the show is a whole ‘nother can of worms. There’s the writing but then there’s the animation, which aren’t as connected as we may think.
 
I consider all of the mane6 ships iron clad anyway because the only way to hurt those ships would be to explicitly end their friendship.

Only Twitter trolling I see is Appledash, not Rarijack. People only get Rarijack from the comics, usually.

Also now there are more straight pictures than lesbian. I wonder what it’s like on Fimfiction.

They are as fickle as any sector of the fandom. If the two haven’t shared a special moment on the show, then the ship is shit.

Then there was the Dislestia teasing at the end. It’s certainly meaningless to the show but we know how shippers will take any form of approval.

Here’s my line of thinking when it comes to shipping:
 
Canon interesting interaction -> people liking interactions between said characters -> produce shipping (arts, fics, etc).

It still feels really arbitrary most of the time though. Especially when relationships are spelled out so clearly for the audience.

Shipping should be all about what could be, and not what people think is already happening. At least that’s how I think it should be. That’s where canon and fanon get mixed up and shitstorms happen. Saying a ship is canon when it hasn’t been set up that way, as you know, is my pet peeve and then I must kill puppies.

Though I’m not interested in what people think about a ship, just what they produce. I’m just in it for the cutesy fuzzy stuff.
 

As far as straight ships go there has been a lot of SoarinDash lately. Personally it’s not my cup of tea and I’d welcome a change like…ThunderDash or something.

Thunderlane seems to be everyone’s second choice when they don’t want to ship a pony with the most popular choice but there’s no one else left. Poor guy.

Perhaps I’m just biased because Feeling Pinkie Keen was my first episode, but they’re adorable together. I think this deviant art comment says it best: “the nerdy/bookish girl who sometimes needs to loosen up and the girl who loves parties. it works well because they each help ground the other’s insecurities”

It used to be in the top ten, but people were grossly abusing the shipping tags and it got knocked way back. Seriously, sometimes it’s not shipping.
