Honestly I like that’s she’s not quite as focused on, and that she’s involved in making other characters look good. Starlight has got a lot of attention lately, and I’ll even admit that it’s a little too much. I like when she takes a step back, and plays a foil to others.
 
In fact my least favorite staring appearance from her was ‘Mirror Magic’. Making Sunset Shimmer pretty much job for her really didn’t need to happen, and weakened the whole climax.

I would have mentioned Trixie, but I’m aware that people who don’t like Starlight don’t like her either, and that Trixie didn’t really become a real ‘character’ until after ‘No Second Prances’.
Still, Trixie is awesome, and that’s another point for Starlight.
 
Its interesting that you would think people who don’t like Starlight don’t like Trixie either… I like Trixie…
 
Trixie is a show pony who travels from town to town performing magic shows. Why? I dunno. I thought maybe she loves making ponies happy with her magic shows. That’s the point of putting on a show, right? But why does she travel? I dunno. All I know is that’s kind of sad. She doesn’t have a town to call her own, she lives in a wagon she pulls around all the time and maybe she’s looking for something or someone.
 
I had always wished that some day, Twilight would take Trixie in as her apprentice… Give her a home, teach her magic, give her purpose as a character. I mean, she’s been around since season 1… But guess who’s Twilight’s apprentice right now?

Its interesting that you would think people who don’t like Starlight don’t like Trixie either… I like Trixie…
 
I don’t know why either, I just see a lot of people commenting negatively on both of them. Maybe it’s because they share a lot of episodes, and she’s the only character outside of comics that she’s really had much interaction with (funnily enough, Trixie and Twilight have rarely spoken in the actual show).

I’ve never really got that impression from her, mostly because she’s so rude to her fans and she incorporates humiliating her audience into her shows. She always seemed like a rather insecure woman trying to show off and seem more important than she actually was.
 
Even before ‘Magic Duel’ I was a fan of ‘jealous and bitter magic school drop out’ Trixie.
 
I had always wished that some day, Twilight would take Trixie in as her apprentice… Give her a home, teach her magic, give her purpose as a character. I mean, she’s been around since season 1… But guess who’s Twilight’s apprentice right now?
 
Me too. Twilight needed an apprentice for a long time, and I like that kind of mentor relationship. Still in hindsight Twilight would have meshed rather badly with Trixie, Twilight’s always been rather concerned with good manners and a humble attitude. Really I love the Twilight>Starlight>Trixie chain.
 
…they need another episode with the three of them together.

Wrong. Starlight opens up herself more when she’s with other characters that she can emphathizing with. Starlight never confidencly joking about her brain washing thing when she’s with other characters, Starlight only bad talks Twilight and her friends when she’s with Trixie, Starlight still acts uncomfortable around Twilight, while she’s fine with Trixie. Starlight didn’t even mention her obsession over kites until she mets another werido like her. one-sided relationship my ass.

You know what? I actually thought that this would be a positive Starlight thread with no negativity or any haters popping up out of nowhere for once. But I guess that’s just asking for too much. That’s just incredible. I don’t see why folks feel the need to complain about her all the damn time. Even when, let’s face it, no one asked them. I mean it’s not like there’s a shortage of “Starlight’s the worst character ever” threads or anything. And it’s not like we don’t know why you guys hate so much. So why come to the only thread where fans should feel safe from the hate, huh? Do you guys like to start shit? Do you guys like making people upset or annoyed? Do you guys want to take our enjoyment away from us? Do you feed off of negativity or something? Have you guys learned nothing from Twilicorn, or Equestria Girls (plus Flash Sentury), or Twilight’s house blowing up? Apparently not! Oy…..I’m not even mad. It’s just Starlight’s turn on the chopping block, really.  
-First people complained about Cadance.  
-Then Twilacorn. Apparently to the point where we had to make her a specific tag for having wings because people just could not stand images of her with them. [might be a bit off there, was before I joined the site.]  
-Then there was Equestria Girls’ existence itself to complain about.  
-Then Flash Sentry.  
-Then Twilight’s Castle.  
-Some other minor things here and there amidst those larger complaint magnets.  
-Starlight.
 
Something else will come along for people to latch onto with complaints and Starlight drama will slowly fade like Twilacorn drama and the rest~

Everyone knows a pony forced to turn into an alicorn is like given character development death sentence. Mandated by Hasbro with no creative input whatsoever, its for the toys. And right now, everyone who is familiar with Starlight dreads this because there’s no other evident character development available for her current state in DHX continuity.
 
If Starlight graduated In Celetial Advice to choose to do her own thing then MAYBE she would have had other paths for character growth. But DHX didn’t choose this path for her. They don’t know what to do with the mini-Twilight. So some fans are thinking she’s gonna take the same path that Twilight did.
 
Lol. I don’t want her to turn into an alicorn either. I want her to live peacefully with Sunburst in the Crystal Empire and continue to develop her magic so she can help ponies with the talents that were given to her by her CM. But if she turns into an alicorn, well, fuck it. I’m shipping Sunburst with Trixie.

In short (because this question genuinely upsets me) Starlight is the awkward outsider who feels isolated from society, and makes all her deepest connections with other wierdos and outcasts. She genuinely sees the attitudes of normal people as shallow and nonsensical, and is learning to understand them the hard way.
 
Making her the corporate, royal princess of ‘being pretty and stuff’ would invalidate everything I love and admire abouy her.

The only thing to learn is that changes in the status quo happen, and we must either begrudgingly accept them or ragequit. Starlicorn won’t be an exception, either.
