Unpopular opinion time

To this day Flight to the Finish’s ending pisses me off.

So… just watched Fame and Misfortune… Here are the goods and bads:
 
Goods:  
-FINALLY! M.A.LARSON!  
-Bringing back the lost journal!  
-And they’re finally famous, although not in a good way  
-Best Twilight so far since season 6  
-Best pony from the horrible G3 is back!  
-Touch on the blindly hatred on best pony  
-Flutterbold!
 
Bads:  
-A little OP Starlight scene  
-Uhm… Does Starlight really do anything much? All she’ve done is copy the journals and bring those fillies in  
-The episode felt a bit boring  
-The song is… ok…  
-The ending although is realistic but could’ve been better  
-|| WHY AMETHYST STAR A FAN OF WORST MANE SIX? ||
 
So… better than Parental Glideance but worse than Forever Filly…

Season 4 seemed to have a lot of tease endings.

Oh, you mean the cutie mark thing; I never thought that was going to be The Moment, it was a Scootaloo Episode and by that point it was pretty clear to me that if the CMC ever did get their marks it was going to be in a CMC Episode where they got them all together.

In the first half yeah, like right up to Rarity Takes Manehatten. And given a lot of people were expecting a continuing story arc for the season (and by that I mean more serialization more so than one off episodes that had connecting McGuffins) there was a bit of criticism back at the time.

Considering how many responses this thread has, I’m sure some of these opinions don’t count as unpopular anymore.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if she actually altered the contents when she made copies of the journal to cause trouble? I would’ve loved it if that was the case. She would’ve been such a massive and legendary troll.

It’s a good job she didn’t teach that spell to Trixie, because she definitely would have done that.
 
On the other hand, this episode really showed how much Starlight respects the mane 6. She looked ready to murder a fool a couple of times after seeing Rarity and Fluttershy getting upset.

I wish they’d stop making such ugly faces in the show.

And interesting because it would give her a personality quirk. Not that she never had one but more like she lost one. She reminds me of Arnold from the later seasons of Hey Arnold now. A character who started with a personality but developed to lose it later on. Always playing it safe and never taking any risks. Always telling everyone to keep out of trouble. Behaving like the plain good ‘ol little girl that she is. Not to mention always being the right one to resolve the conflict.
 
I’m still holding hope that she’ll do something interesting one day. Something that’ll make her personality stand out from the other ponies quirks other than flying a kite. Maybe I’m just delusional.

I agree with this, it’s slowly turning into Spongebob or Star

IMO, Fame & Fortune was basically a savage shout-out to “fans” who have ever complained about the Mane 6 as characters for the past 7 years!  
And to all those who are still butthurt over yesterday’s episode: If that episode “offended” you, you probably needed it.

I think I’ve figured out what this ‘Take That’ episode was really missing to tie it all together.
 
A certain demographic that would really give the full scope of fandom miscreants.
 
The kind that would be emboldned by their lack of representations in the episode and would suffer bloated egos from the(hopefully) accidental validation.

Personally I feel that anyone that’s getting offended by Fame and Misfortune is kind of missing the point and reading more into the episode than is actually there, that it’s not mean-spirited more simply a gentle poking fun.
 
The only way I can see someone getting offended by the episode as if they feel they are represented among those being a little bit excessive, over zealot, or are otherwise one of the fans that are shown causing the Mane Six some trouble.
 
The episode was harmless, the staff wasn’t attacking the fandom, and the criticism that was given was well deserved. It was simply a well done meta humor episode which could be taken a bit as commentary on the fandom.

I don’t want Starlight to just randomly become a troll, because that’s not who she is. that’s NEVER been who she is, even when she was evil. When Star was evil, she still thought she was helping ponies, and everything cruel she did she did out of bitterness. She was mocking Twilight to hurt her because she thought Twi hurt her first. She’s not just a troll.
 
I can agree with people who want Star to have MORE of a personality, but I don’t want her to randomly be an asshole either.

How dare you suggest that we, the fans, are over reacting!? The mere thought is preposterous and offends me! All we do is give our criticism when the show does something wrong! I don’t care if they are trying to “shake up the status quo,” it’s different so it’s bad! We know better than these clowns that call themselves writers!

Thank you! I hate how people ignore that she always wanted to help others, and just see her as a Sunset knock-off.
