I hate the idea of them being the same. It’s great how they are very different characters that are both redeemed villains, and trying to make them the same would have ruined Starlight.

Does anyone even know why Sunburst even existed? It seems like they could’ve given Starlight any kind of backstory. Even a backstory very different from Sunset’s just to make her villainous ways “justifiable” to a degree.
 
The similarities are odd, though.
 
Sunset was a student of Celestia who failed her studies and became evil.  
Starlight became evil after losing Sunburst because he became a student of Celestia.
 
Its like they just retconed the story a little bit. They wanted the backstories to have parallels but different. Maybe it was intentional or maybe it was rushed. Who knows?

Starlight’s least interesting when she’s written as a full-on woobie or a Twilight clone  
look, they’re both purple, they both have sparkly things for cutie marks…

We must not be reading the same comment sections, because most of the ongoing complaints I see about Starlight– aside from SHE EXISTS!!1!– are over the way she keeps regressing to mind control and domineering and using magic to “solve” basic problems.

That would be difficult, they’re from two different series.

It would be super hard for them to make it work given her vengeful fury in the Season 6 Finale– and the cackling cruelty and viciousness she’d shown before that– but if they managed to pull it off it would be bloody amazing.

Triple Threat wasn’t the worst Spike episode, even if it was underwhelming  
I didn’t think it was “underwhelming” at all; it was a hoot and had a great turnaround from goofy farce to Actual Important Friendship Lesson.

I appreciated that they allowed him to still be a huge spangly dork and didn’t up-gravitas him just because he’s royalty now. Also that they let Ember be a decent person who’s alien and weird simply because she honestly doesn’t understand Pony culture.

Apparently DC is making a good guy Joker comic in October called Batman: White Knight.
 
It’s a what-if? that has the Joker getting cured of his insanity, and tries to become a politician to take down the real villain (in his eyes), batman.

I actually never seen that before. I think it would actually be interesting if she does this on purpose instead of having it accidentally. Let it be her gimmick, let it be her quirk. Its better than not having anything or being a clone of an already existing character.

Tank should’ve actually died in the episode.

Nah. Discord’s chaotic. My vision for Starlight is a lot more of a sociopath. Y’know, the one that wanted to spend eternity in a time loop just to mess up Twilight’s and her friends lives.
 
I want ponies to be afraid of her maniacal laugh and I want her to over react on the most mundane things. To top it off, I want her to be shown taking advantage of the ponies infinitely forgiving nature mostly for comedic effect. And then underneath all that grime, sharp and rough superficial exterior, there is a tiny but bright “glimmer” of a true friend that comes out whenever it needs to.
 
That’s what friends are. They’re not perfect people. They’re people that you like even if they piss you off.

I don’t know, she might have the Trixie problem in that there’s tangible benefit to befriending her.
 
She’s not especially magical, is no longer a monarch, there’s no power there to be feared, controlled, or respected.

Again, with Star, it was a character that started out with good intentions, but lost herself along the way, the signs you can see re-watching The Cutie Map.

You could still keep elements of her personality, my issue is been with the fact of her magic being so powerful and being used so. She’s given far too much magical ability, so if they were too blessing that by a fair degree and simply focus on aspects of her personality being like that of pre-reformation, sure I guess.
 
My biggest issues is her being a magical prodigy and spotlight stealer.

I’m still not feeling how Starlight is a clone of Twilight.
 
She is not obsessed with books like Twilight.
 
She’s not list and organization obsessed like Twilight.
 
She doesn’t seem particularly interested in magic studies and academia unless it’s for a specific purpose (like manipulating TWilight in Every Little Thing. When she mentioned knowing a book copying spell she mentioned specifically why she knows it as it ties into her prior goals)
 
She’s more rebellious than Twilight is.
 
She has more moments of snark than current Twilight generally does.
