Fanon Style Hippogriffs and Classical-G4 Style Hippogriffs

What? THis is a terrible solution and takes away what we had all agreed to in the end. There is plenty of difference between talon horses and actual hippogriffs, and subtags make searching for refs and such much easier.

I like looking through both the Classical Unicorn and the Classical Hippogriff tags so I think it would be rather unfortunate if it were to go away all of a sudden.

Good question, why should “classical unicorn” exist? I didn’t realize that Derpibooru was Children’sPonyShow taxonomy class where we need to start drawing up kingdoms because mythical catbirds don’t look identical.

I should also point out, Joey, that the subtag solution won the poll that was produced as well.

It’s not about ‘drawing up kingdoms’, it’s about making it easier for people to find things that they like, or avoid seeing things that they don’t want to see.
 
‘classical ubicorn’ exists because some people want to be able to find images of unicorns that display the traits of classical unicorn myth (cloven hooves, tufted tail and curved horn) without slogging through all the regular ubicorn images.
 
Likewise, ‘classical hippogriff’ allows people to find only pictures of hippogriffs with classical features, since they’re clearly visually distinct from the fandom style ones.

Anyways there is literally no reason to merge. You guys arent even tagged ‘fanon hippogriff’ or w/e the fuck it’d have ended up being. So it does not even affect you, only us who actually want to be able to separate things out for searching or reffing or such.
 
Both are still tagged hippogriff, so its not even like you are being ‘kicked off’ the tag either.
 
I just got back from MFF, and was laying down to sleep when I got poked that you guys were going to merge the damn tags.

So the tags are not supposed to correctly portray what you are looking for? Seems counterproductive.
 
If you look for something more horse than gryphon, Hippogryph is the right answer. And if you are looking for somethign more gryphon than horse, Hippogryph is the answer. It means things get less and less easy to search for. I do not count the almost entirely horse except for one feature changed not as Hippogryphs and will be confused upon finding such things under the Hippogryph tag since those are NOT actual Hippogryphs.  
It would be like me claiming all ponies to be earthponies regardless of them being PEGASI with wings or UNICORNS with horns since, in their concept, they are ponies just with different features added or subtracted.
 
I do think the seperation does have its reasons since the examples brought up on the very first comment are different in their core. The first one is a pony with claws. The other is a MLP cannon Hippogryph that does portray it like the mythological creature. So the show does care to make the distinctions clear as well. I do not understand how it can be so hard to see the obvious difference and make a decision upon that difference.
 
TLDR: Fandom “Hippogryphs” are different from actual Hippogryphs. The tag should be different for those two things.

No, no, no. You’re committing a massive logic mistake by excluding everyone who dis_agrees, via disregarding previous votes and not even waiting until other side can see your post and pitch in, and then cheerfully announcing that all (all _eight of them) are in agreement.
 
Follow the vote. The succeeded option is tag plus subcategories; NOT merging into single.

In my opinion, more information is better, tags allow for granular searches, ect. Since both classical hippogriff and fanon hippogriff would have hundreds of images in them, that is big enough to warrant a tag.

It’s not but some people like looking through the tags once in a while.
 
In fact just recently, I was going through jayrockin’s “Tiny Sapient Ungulates” tag to look at their alternate designs for the characters. It’s not the same thing as the Classic Unicorn/Hippogriff deal by all means, but it’s still kind of a similar situation. But it’s still useful for browsing through different designs (or filtering too since I’m sure some people don’t care for the whole rabbit-Eohippus kind of style).
 
Tags for other styles including, anime, anime style, movie style, realistic, simplistic, and pointy ponies all exist as well. But they’re helpful for looking for and filtering specific art styles and designs you’re looking or don’t want to see.

Both varieties of Hippogriff should reside under the hippogriff tag, with separate subtags denoting which variety: 97 votes  
Classical Hippogriffs (g4) and fanon hippogriffs should be mixed together with no identifying subtags: 81 votes  
Hippogriffs like Cirrus should be separated out to their own tag, leaving the G4 and classical ones intact: 26 votes

The second option, with 81 votes, is the “single ‘hippogriff’ tag with no distinctions” one.

I mean there are 2 categories that sort of mean the same thing here. And the two together vastly overwhelms the keeping same tag. Kicking the fanon hippogriffs off the tag is just a more extreme version of things separated.

Still more. And the difference is lack of aliasing and merging to be performed. Stick descriptions on the three tags, modwork done - all of them will still be tagged “hippogriff” and people who care can handle the non-critical task of applying subtags.

This is why I don’t touch tags.
