Also, I do want to add that I understand that this may not be a popular solution with everyone, but after two months and this regularly flaring back up, it has become pretty clear that there is no possible solution that would make everyone happy.
 
As I’ve said, the “classical hippogriff” tag has been left in place as there’s not been any complaints about it as far as I can tell. However it seems that there was never much strong overall desire for a tag distinguishing fandom style hippogriffs from canon style ones.
 
I’ll take full responsibility for this decision. But over the past few days, it’s become increasingly clear that a universally agreeable solution does not exist, so a decision had to be made. If you disagree with it, I apologize, but this is one of those cases where not everyone is gonna be happy, so I had to put a stop to it before it got even worse.

Ok, I’m tired of this being a major issue. Ponygriff and fandom hippogriff have been merged into hippogriff.
 
As far as I can tell, no one is complaining about classical hippogriff, so that tag can stay if it’s not being an issue.

The reason the debate was stirred was because of the actions of a person who didn’t realise the topic had already been discussed and decided upon. The validity of the classical hippogriff tag wasn’t in question, just whether or not there was a need for a separate tag for fandom ones.

Bwuh? What happened to fanon hippogriff? I thought everyone agreed it was a fine middle ground a couple days ago?

The issue is that no one can agree what “additional info” the tags provide. If it’s only meaningful to a few people, it’s probably not good info.

The “classical unicorn” tag has been in use for years and has a strong, agreed upon definition. We’ve gotten by with just a “hippogriff” tag for years without issue.

The issue is, Joey said he was going to roll the clock back and merge all the subtags back into the umbrella. Is that still happening? Is there discussion among the mods about it?

Something did come of it; the classical hippogriff tag was crated and applied etc. The person taking things a step further, as you put it, was someone who wasn’t even aware that this thread existed.
 
There was a pretty reasonable discussion as to whether fandom style hippogriffs should have their own subtag, a discussion that seemed to be coming to a close with a decent tag name when someone else suggested a third subtag for fandom hippogriffs with paws instead of claws, someone else made a long and pretty abusive post, and then Joey stepped in to roll things back.
 
Option with the least drama would be to leave the classical tag in place and forget about the fandom subtag. There’s no good reason that I can think of to remove it, when it was becoming established and wasn’t causing drama.

I…didnt touch it other than keeping the classical hippogriff tag policed this time, which is where I want it to be, since this discussion we all know is largely fruitless. That was someone else’s meddling.

You’re right it’s not a strawman, it’s false equivalence. You can’t compare tags for subspecies hippogriffs to canon species such as pegasi to unicorn because both pegasi and unicorns are distinguishable and named in-canon, while hippogriffs and canon hippogriffs are not.  
The best comparison you can do that isn’t blatantly trying to stir up shit like yours would be a comparison to unicorn and classical unicorn. And if you’ll read back I think we were all in agreement at the time to have a separate tag for canon hippogriffs to distinguish the two like classical and normal unicorns are now.  
But then nothing came of that. You started to try and take it a step further, enforce dumb names, once again we were at a discourse with nothing actually being done. So we came to this. Since we couldn’t all agree on the show hippogriffs being tagged as such, we’re rolling back to the way things were before you went and started this whole thing. It’s probably not the best option but it’s the least dramatic.

Settle down everyone.  
Repeating the same sentences and running in circles is just that, running in circles. And unless this is NASCAR, that isn’t going to get you anywhere.
 
We have the umbrella tag, and the sub-tags. And if someone wishes to make an actual post describing their reasoning for changing what has already been settled on, you may do so.
 
But if all you wish to post is about the other posts or about the % of past decisions or something not actually constructive, then just don’t post. You do not have to reply.

I know in another thread some mods were complaining about how tagging all that mess was super slow going anyways. We can just cut out that work, because who needs that info? Obviously you can just look and tell if a pony is whichever species.
 
And before anyone shouts straw man, think about it. A horn, vs wings, vs nothing is about the same level of a difference as bird head vs pony head.

Let’s just make every equine character “Pony” and that’s it! Best solution for everything and easy tagging. No more useless “Alicorn”, “Unicorn”, “Pegasus” or “Earthpony” Tag. Not like the seperation has to happen there.

I’m not too tech savvy so I don’t know how to do that sort of thing in regards to changing IP addresses. But even if I did know how to do it, I wouldn’t have done it because doing that to sway the votes since that’s a rather scummy thing to do.

In that case are we removing all more specific sub tags? Such as classical unicorn?

@Ganix I know how IP changing works as well. Sadly the poll is not MAC-Adress protected but that’s how things go. And even then… people could’ve voted two to three times depending on the amount of phones and PCs at their disposal.

I also like to point out that now that Joey has spoken his decision it has gotten everyone all riled up again, there are equal amount of people that favor each side so this’ll go on forever, whatever Joey decides at least he can choose to keep the fanon and classical tags or combine them Its up to him

Dude anyone with half an idea of how a VPN works would be able to create an ungodly amount of fake votes, and that’s not even counting the number of online proxies. Anyone could’ve easily messed with the votes for either side, so I’d use the polls more as a learning tool for everyone to realize that they’re not effective at all for this sort of thing.
 
And no, I didn’t mess with the polls either. It would’ve been extremely easy to, but it’d also be unethical and I honestly just don’t give a shit enough about the change to do something like that. =V

Yes, he did opine that the votes for total separation ought to count with votes for subtags, that means nothing to this discussion since the subtags option won anyway.
 
Nobody was just given what they wanted; there was a discussion, with arguments and opinions from both sides, and a compromise was reached. One that didn’t actually affect fandom style hippogriffs at all, since the mods decided only to implement a subtag for canon/classical ones.
 
This isn’t just about being able to look up refs. What if someone wants to just see all the images involving fandom style hippogriffs? Or canon style ones? There’s a reason we have a subtag for classical unicorns. Also RE creampies, there is in fact an anal creampie tag.

This is why we want seperated SUBTAGS to be able to make our search specific! If there is only one tag saying “Hippogryph” keeping EVERY HORSE HYBRID in it… we won’T be able to add any specific thing to it.

I don’t see why this is going on. Both polls were dumb to do, because when we did the second one, Gyro tried to pull “this vote also technically counts for this vote too, meaning we add it” when he was first losing that vote. I simply don’t care anymore, there was never a problem before, even with other races, of you wanted a specific ref, you commonly looked up an OC that followed that style you want to ref. “This is what we agreed on originally reeee” no, we were forced into deciding cuz someone got permission from one mod, and mass tagged with a bot, of which he should’ve been told not to do again, and the mod not to make that decision again, not this “okay, you dun did a wrong, but let’s give you what you want” Jesus fuck. This wouldn’t of even happened, if someone went and proposed it in the beginning,not just get one person’s opinion, and mass tagged. Want a hippogriff ref of mlp Hippogriff? Look up the canon characters. You want a fanon Hippogriff? Look up the OC. If I search creampie, and I get anal and vaginal but only want one, I’m going to go back to the search bar and add the specific hole I want, not come to the forums and go on about wanting separate tags.
