this, right here.
context does matter when determining if a design is “edgy” or not.
Griffons as a whole tend to be pretty spiky, and the black and grey colour combination still isn’t exactly unseen among canon characters, Giselle being the prominent example. And the character is stated to be a Fallout Equestria character, so the scars fit the theme and environment naturally. About the only thing I think is worth mentioning would be the red eyes.
This.
The OC has dark colors, scars all over his body, spiky hair, and red eyes. That’s pretty “edgy”, yes.
Dark colouring itself is fine, but when you combine it with spiky white/grey hair and red eyes (very aggressive colours), you’ve got yourself the go-to “cool” combo for people who aren’t sure how to actually write a cool character.
Note that the only canon character we’ve had with that colour scheme was Tirek.

For what it’s worth, only one artist (two now, I guess) has ever put scars on him. Since such little art exists, I gave that to Ralek for a reference, so I wouldn’t really say they’re a part of his character design.
I have a feeling you purposely ignored the part about scars.

your current filter.>why so defensive?
Because I’m sick of everyone in this fandom automatically branding any OC with dark coloring as “edgy.” Like it’s some kind of crime to use anything but a pastel color, even though dark colors are used in the show. There’s only three things to be avoided as far as I’m concerned: ridiculously saturated colors, pure 0,0,0 RGB black, and color schemes that clash horribly.
Nice assumption; why so defensive?
It’s a mix of “dark/black colors” as well as “covered in scars” that makes this lean towards the edgy OC territory.
