Well, the mirror thing only comes from the comics. The show doesn’t touch on why so many baby ponies are clones of their moms, and why some aren’t, and just where the Newborn Twins came from when none of the existing ponies are identified as their parents. So… I guess you’d just figure they have papa ponies somewhere that we just don’t see.

I see. If fans of the ‘80s series only ever saw the show and didn’t partake in the toys, comics, magazines, et cetera., what would they believe is the one or more ways a pony is born? :3

Two, actually! And it’s the only good explanation for why all the baby ponies were basically their mommies only shrunk. The same comic series showed both sets of Newborn Twins being created from drawings, and Majesty seemed to conjure Lucky outta thin air.
 
The Apple Delight set of “Loving Family Ponies” had a mommy and a daddy and kids with aspects of both, though, so… the G1 comics do contain one whole instance of the “when a mommy and a daddy pony love each other very very much” method. But you couldn’t read the comics and get the idea that that was the norm just because we didn’t witness all the clone babies’ emergence from the mirror.

Actually we only see one Baby Pony created via magic mirror and only few ponies in that comic knew about the thing at all. Additionally, the Newborn Twins are called, well Newborn Twins, so they seem to be actually born. I have no reason not to assume that G1 ponies reproduce biologically most of the time.
