Because his Luna ever felt like cannon Luna? Luna after dark always was completely removed from the show’s depiction of Luna, even in pony form. And it was great. You could appreciate that Luna and all her quirks, she had personality and her own style.
Now the issue is that he’s being inconsistent with his own character of human Luna, changing her with every drawing. Maybe he’s looking for a way he could enjoy drawing her again, but I’ll agree it’s really jarring.
