I think the lips part may come about on the depiction of bat-ponies and vampires and such being shown with their fangs exposed. Even when the mouth is closed.
Though that should mean they’re angled outward, more like tusks or something. I dunno.

I’ve bitten myself on the inside of my mouth, but a fang would just come in the way and make it harder to do.

I’ve bitten my tongue too, but that’s only with my front teeth … I don’t think I’ve ever done that with my corner teeth.
I would say that she has a misdeveloped mouth to allow these accidents to happen so often. Sad for her.
