Maud: They are an acquired taste.
I wonder if Apple Bloom reminds her a bit of Pinkie Pie. Obviously she isn’t nearly as spirited, but Pinkie (whom we’ve seen Maud does care quite a bit for) does kind of embody youthful exuberance and (frequently) childlike joy. Maybe they connect because Apple Bloom subconsciously reminds her of a sister who has enthusiastically supported and cared for her no matter what her personality is like.
(I haven’t seen the episode yet, I need to catch up. )
