Plus that bit runs on Dramatic Irony. The Audience already knew who the pair were when they met.
Yes, but not until two thirds into the story, when they find each other in Brethil, but neither know who is the other.

Friendship, Art, and Magic (2017) - Celebrated Derpibooru's five year anniversary with friends.

Ancalagon the Black was stupidly huge and could be measured in map size. The half elf that slew him must have had a HUGE amount of Spiral Power in order to pull that off. I’m not very familiar with Tolkien’s stories.

If that is indeed THE Ancalagon the Black, you might as well give up now. That’s like taking on a million Ursa Majors…that are all on steroids…and have flamethrowers…and can use magic…
