Molly Hays was supposed to be referencing “Molly Hayes” from Runaways, who is supposed to be super strong. Haven’t read Runaways myself, though.
Sad, but true, so unless a colt with something interesting about them pops up, or they’re on par with Rumble or Button, they’ll end up pretty much ignored (Strike, Fencer/Lance and several others come to mind).
It’s an obscure reference to a comic if I understood correctly. Something about a teen with super strength and purple eyes?

Why “Molly Hays”, though? I get her other two names, and “Molly Hays” is cute, but I don’t see the reasoning behind it.

I usually just go with Lily Longsocks, but I remembered that there was another name or two. I put Powerhouse on ‘cause of that, but I did forget about “Molly Hays”.
I just thought this was so cute when I saw it that I had to try and get just that moment, tho’.
I posted that pic comparing her to Pipi (then Crows came up with the cute name), I didn’t think it was a reference at all. The super strengh + the braids made me think of Pipi, then the name was proposed and adopted by most. But now we still have Powerhouse (not cute, not subtle, not usable IMO) and Molly Hays (and all its variations).
Yeah, I support that as her name.
I admit, though, that I was initially skeptical of assertions that she was referring to Pippi Longstockings, because their personalities are so opposite. The real Pippi is about the most extroverted character you could imagine, and she never hid her strength.
Not necessarily a parody nor a reference, just some parallels. Also Lily Longsocks is a cute name.
