yeah I noticed the cutie mark and thought it was a mistake and then realized that they all got there cutie marks eventually but like you said no connection no elements equestria doomed

Not a Llama - Happy April Fools Day!

Pinkie can have her cutie mark, but because she didn’t get it at the same time as the others, there was no cutie mark connection, which means they couldn’t use the elements of harmony.
 
They still have their regular cutie marks.

Personally I think this might be a second timeline, after Starlight realizes that the one without the Rainboom sucks. She went back and fixed it but did something else; like try to stop Nightmare Moon from existing in the first place. Which causes this timeline to happen likely with Nightmare Celestia as the villain who is maybe more competent or something perhaps.

I hope we get multiple “time dimensions” where things are different depending on stuff Starlight and Twilight do as they leapfrog back and forth in the timestream. If there isn’t a Doctor Who reference this finale, it would be a missed opportunity
