Let’s face it, if Mac had been in the war he would have been pulling a train of weapons and artillery, whilst smashing through crystal spires and enemy lines.

Well if we look at the map we would see that Ponyville is near the front and is in constant threat of attack. Because of this we can assume that the children would be in the most secured area in Equestria. I.E Canterlot. Any pony not crucial to the war effort nor able to fight would be placed in positions that would not impede or endanger the effort to the war. If they were running around they would be a strain on resources and ponies who would have to sacrifice the mission to save them if the need arises. Ponies on this list would be Young colts and fillies, The elderly and the crippled and or wounded.

So where’re the kids in all this?

The more I examine this scene, the sadder it gets. Methinks Granny is dead from the war’s hardships, and seeing her mug on thousands of cans of applesauce produced for the effort has really been depressing for Applejack and Big Mac. That, and that Sugar Cube Corner being a drab bakery, making (likely rationed) loaves of bread to the hungry, dwindling locals…

In time of war Single stallions in charge of families, farms, business or other occupations crucial to the war effort are spared from the draft. Also since teh apple family is so large and so well connected you will get the Saving Private Ryan story really fast if all the stallions of the Apple Family were to be drafted. No if they fight it is voluntary… But seeing how Big Macintosh is the fandoms badass… yeah the writers dropped the ball.
 
Some Big Mac vs evil armies would have made the entire viewer base scream in patriotic bliss.

In this timeline, Apple Bloom does not exist. Because there was no Sonic Rainboom, Applejack didn’t return to Sweet Apple Acres when she was supposed to and missed the moment in time when she was supposed to conceive Apple Bloom with her brother.

You’ll also noticed that Granny Smith isn’t around anymore. one would think the stress got to her and her death brought AJ back during the war.
