to be fair, a key theme in fallout series is resource depletion. the radiation may fade, but the oil won’t magically reappear to power the massive fabrication plants. the problem isn’t so much recovering from the disaster worldwide, but in stopping the bleeding long enough to recover some semblance of civilization again. never as much as the old glory.
Fallout: at worst, it’s only Planetary Societal Collapse, nothing that can’t be recovered from;
FiM final timeline: at worst, it’s Planetary Total Extinction, the Game Over.

I can attest to that. I’ve been making a reasonably popular story on FimFic for awhile now and ever so often I get some jerk stomping by decrying it for not being like FO:E despite my story having a completely different setting and tone to it. It’s not that I have a problem with darker story telling, but by Christ not EVERY long crossover needs to be grimdark.
I read it the first time and held opinion until the end, concluded I didn’t really like it.
Waited a few months and happened to notice it again and figured, “Eh, why not? It’s pretty popular so maybe there is something I missed the first time?”
So I looked into what people liked about it, put aside all gripes I might have had before, and read it again.
Still no go. It wasn’t that I thought it was a bad story, it just affected me about as much as nerf gun would kevlar.
FO:E has a fandom but like all things ever, some will like it, some with love it, some with hate it, and some with be indifferent. Just as it is A-okay to like it, there are perfectly valid opinions of people who dislike it for the same reasons others like it.
I did read through the whole thing twice now, and my opinion of it hasn’t changed much in that I don’t particularly care for it. I wasn’t very engaged and even felt a bit let-down or angered at a few portions, or just rolled my eyes at others. The scares in my mind relied too much on shock value and not proper tone variation, meaning stuff like what was pulled at Canterlot just left me bored. Does that mean I just didn’t ‘get it’ or didn’t understand it? No. I was fully aware of what it was trying to tell, I just didn’t take too well to it. It respect the talent put into it, I just didn’t care much for the final product. You CAN dislike something others like a lot without being a brainless hater.
And, like all fandoms, there WILL be the ‘fan-dumb’ portion to it all. Some people who get so drawn up into FO:E they act out rashly and rudely to people with different opinions, and thus sour the story’s name to others. Now should one judge a group based off the fringes? No. But no group is perfect to begin with.
What is with the down votes. I certain cases yes it is canon, but in others cases it is not. Not many other fan docs can claim to have a fan base as active and dedicated. That is because someone put effort into the original. The original had great characters, plot, lore, and setting. For those (like myself) that were able to finish it were on the edge of our seats. That is why people enjoy it some much. No other fic (that I know of) is this good. If there is one that has hundreds of thousands of fans across the world who are involved in creating their own animations, adorable plushies, and video games (not marking that up.
I respect an opposite opinion. If there is a fan fic out there that has this big of a fan base then I would like to know.
I don’t care for it, cool or uncoolness be damned. Don’t hate it, least the original, as I can tell some good talent went into it and I respect that. I just didn’t find it engaging or very entertaining. Seemed like it was trying too hard to be gritty at times, using shock rather than tone to sell some of the scares. That’s just my opinion though, if others disagree, no harm no foul. But, just because I don’t care for it doesn’t automatically write my opinion off as ‘haters gonna hate’ garbage. I would agree I think it is a tad overrated and would prefer the possible bad future we saw not be labeled as ‘Canon FO:E’. If anything, reminds me more of ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’

So, that makes dash, an Atom bomb baby…
Who?

Wait, you read it twice while not enjoying it at all? How does that make any sense?
Interjecting FO:E into EVERY big attempt at a crossover or war story annoys a lot of people.

Well, FoE has created it´s own fandom after all. But I am happy you have defended it.
What fan fic do you suggest? No really. Suprise me.

Its not cool to like good literature, so people tend to say that FoE is not good.
Fo:e isn’t good?
