Description

From visiting the griffon kingdom to seeing our beloved background ponies getting the spotlight for once, this season has certainly been a wild ride and seen the best the show’s had to offer thus far.

To those of you angry over Starlight Glimmer’s redemption, just remember to reflect on the amazing things this season has given us and keep in mind the show’s not quite done yet. Like the end of Season 3 and 4, this is a time of change. And change can be quite scary sometimes. But our fandom is strong and we’ll persevere. This could be the beginning of something incredible to come.

So look to the future and buckle up: this ride’s far from over~

Season 5 could have been better if it didn’t have any Yak-asses in it >:(

I have a feeling that season 4 and 5 will go down as the best of the show over all. With season 5 beating out 4 by a bit IMO. Mostly for all the big changes this season ended up bringing to the table. While no season is perfect, and there will always be some bad episodes here and there I think so far the show is the best it’s ever been. Hopefully season 6 continues this trend and the show can pull a Simpsons and then end so it doesn’t go down hill.

For those who don’t know seasons 4, 5 and 6 of The Simpsons are generally considered the height of the show for most people. Some include seasons 7 and 8 in that but it’s almost universally agreed on that 4,5 and 6 were the best of the best overall.

Agreed on the first part. I feel that if that the last 3rd of the whole 2-parter was done in a different way, this season would of ended with a bang. But it seems they fell into the same old habits for finale’s for the last part of the episode. I’d say they were afraid to question things too fast just in the end of Starlight’s plotline. Need more time for S6 and EG4 to further the show in terms of maturity and character growth.

If they are willing to do so, removing Twilight and Celestia from safety net, too important for growth status, I think the series can last a long time. Emphasis on ‘if’.

Still, this was an overall good episode and an absolutely great Season. :)

I kind of hope the show ends after a few more seasons. I want it to end strong, rather than being yet another show that went on a little too long. Like Dexter’s Lab (Fuck the one-button labcoat seasons) or Futurama (You had so many amazing finales, but you just wouldn’t stop.)

I might not have liked how quickly she was redeemed (Like, seriously, after she got pulled with Twilight into the bad future, and then showed Twi what happened to make her hate cutie marks so much, that really should have been where the convincing speech should have happened.) but I still LOVED the shitloads of continuity and the awesome bad futures it showed off. (Though honestly the only thing that consistently got ‘worse than the last’ about them was their story potential, IMO.) So overall I like the episode despite the ending.

The only episode in the season I legitimately didn’t like was Princess Spike. Definitely best season as far as I’m concerned. The season of continuity, feels and eyebrows.

i still can’t make up my mind regarding whether or not this or season 4 are my favorites. i was a bit worried at first but man oh man, i was SUPER impressed with season 5. in fact, i’d say it was the first ever season that didn’t contain a single episode that i would consider outright bad; i found “princess spike” and “what about discord” to be the weakest but even then i only found them mediocre as opposed to outright bad. on the other hand, season 4 had a strong “epic” feel to it and an overarching storyline which led to an extremely climactic conclusion, even though some episodes did fall flat imo. nonetheless, i have to say that y’all are SUPER lucky y’all are fans of a show that’s managed to stay this consistently good for such a long period of time. if you think about it, many shows, especially cartoons, will often experience a noticeable dip in quality or even jump the shark outright, but mlp is on its fifth year and is actually hitting homers more consistently than it ever did when it first aired! i know at this point a lot of people (myself included) are wondering if the show will eventually start declining in quality and leave us with a husk of a show, but in all honesty what i’ve seen so far is a rare treasure among television cartoons that’s managed to stay both fresh and entertaining far longer than many others like it, so i’m very grateful for what we’ve been given.

For me, Season 5 was my favorite season yet. I was very pleased about the general line up of episodes. But, more importantly, this season really left the biggest impression on me. There were so many moments were I felt as if the episodes in this season were digging a bit deeper than usual. Some even spoke to me in some respects. There was a lot of heart put into this season. And, it was way more focused and consistent than Season 4. Top that off with the amount of milestones and developments that occurred, as well as call backs and genuinely satisfying fan service.(I don’t agree with the whole fan pandering BS. There is nothing wrong with making references and shout-outs in this show, to me.) And, characters that we never thought would really get the time of day anytime soon got major and significant secondary roles.

Overall, I loved it. I don’t care what anyone else says.

Still pretty vexed about Starlight but at least I have other episodes to fall back on and can speculate about S6.

Not a Llama - Happy April Fools Day!

Season 5 has definitely been a wild ride. Meeting a villain that wanted equality, seeing Gilda again and having her reformed, that special 100th episode, Rarity getting her boutique in Canterlot, the CMC getting their cutie marks, reforming Starlight Glimmer, and other really fun things that happened this season made this my most favorite season of the show to date. There wasn’t a single episode that I legitimately disliked(Princess Spike is my least favorite episode of the season, but I find that episode to be just mediocre).
Psycho Shy

It was a mixed bag, really. Some of the best episodes and some of the worst episodes in a long, long time. I liked it more than Season 4; there was overall less heavy-handed theming, and some things I’ve been waiting for for a long time happened (Cough CRUSADERS Wheeze).
But I gotta be honest. When this season got it wrong, it got it way wrong. I didn’t want to finish Princess Spike, and the finale…has left me feeling rather empty. I admit, my innate desire for Glimmer to be vaporized by episode’s end might have been…extreme, but they chose about the easiest way out to “redeem” her, and it made it very hard for me to enjoy things.

Ah, well. I can hunker down; with luck, I’ll never have to see Glimmer again. Time for the big wait. …Or maybe I should go back and watch EqG III for more disappointment? Who knows.
