Yes and no. Try including a lesbian kiss in your 80s cartoon and watch how fast it gets banned as ZOMG SATANISM. Mighty Mouse was cancelled because he inhaled a pink powder and the Christian fundies in the “American Family Association” flipped out claiming he was snorting coke

I think the movie was supposed to be about the two of them being brothers, yes. But if I’m not mistaken, they wanted the movie to function well as a stand alone sequel. Having a big character like that from the series appear would kinda require watching the show.

I think a “Prime” example of that are the other two g1 cartoons by Hasbro.

Animation studios were far more free to include mature content or content that could be perceived as mature back in 1980s and before. The current trend of sanitizing everything children see to avoid potentially offending them or their parents is largely a result of the rise of 1990s political correctness. It’s related to the creation of the ESRB for video games.
He was originally supposed to be the villain in “Aladdin and the King of Thieves” I think, instead of the other guy (Aladdin’s father, I think? It’s been a while since I’ve seen it).

The best thing about the animated series is easily the main villain, Mozenrath. He’s a much darker villain than Disney usually has in a series and he’s a screen ham, which I love.
Norm I mostly remember because he appeared in more than one episode. Otherwise he’d be in the same camp as [checks TV tropes] Desiree. And Danny Phantom was a pretty good show, would recommend.

I think I remember that episode of FOP, but it was so long ago since I last watched that show, I’ve forgotten it. As for Danny Phantom, I’ve never really watched that one.

Norm from the Fairly Oddparents and the lady genie ghost from Danny Phantom. I can also think of some non-genie wish-granters like the wishing skull in Grim and Mandy. I think we just got kind of tired of Genies because either they can solve every single problem or they’re yet another study in being careful what you wish for with the literal-ness and loophole abuse.
Yeah. There was also the animated series. I never saw that, and despite the low quality animation, it looks interesting.
Dan really did. He had a big act to follow and even though the Aladdin films he was in were lower-quality than the first with Robin, Dan definitely made them worth watching in my book.
