One slightly awkward thing about this pairing is… Going by the ep’ “Pinkie Apple Pie” they might be related.

They won’t appear in the comic itself, this is just a special convention cover celebrating Valentines Day, because it’s the Feb. issue.
 
Remember: covers, especially variant covers, are often standalone art pieces. They do not reflect the story content of the comic most of the time, especially when the cover artist and comic artist aren’t the same person.

it is up to interpretation wether they liked each other in a romantic sense in the episode, Everyone assumes they did because shippers. I guess this fan service comic proves they did, then again they made shining armour a nerd in his backstory to appeal to, what they believe to be, their nerdy comic fan base which seem a bit out of character for the head of the Royal guard so they could have discovered that marblemac was popular so why not make a profit on it
