They’re just too different.
That’s what I was told every day when I was growing up, and it’s what I’ve told my subjects every day since. We can’t live among them, except to feed. That is our way, and that is how it should be. And I do honestly believe it.
But still, I don’t think you can spend your entire life studying, mimicking, another being without becoming at least a little curious. What would it be like if, even just for a while, you could stop pretending? What would it be like to actually be one of them?
Chrysalis seems more curious than longing but Out There is a decent fit.
