That doesn’t mean that Firefly couldn’t be named for both reasons. Since Lauren’s own username is after Firefly, then there is really no contest. Firefly is a reference to both the G1 Firefly and Lauren.

Also, one fan said Tirek and Scorpan are portrayed differently in G1 and G4 (I forgot where I got that, but it was on the wiki too, I do know that Scorpan was Tirek’s brother in G4, when he wasn’t in G1).

That General Firefly is not G1 Firefly; she was named after Lauren Faust’s “fyre-flye” username.

Well, Firefly is long dead. She was the one of the Generals of the Wonderbolts. Her mom is Rainbowshine, she shares her eye color with Rainbow Dash. Plus, those names!
 
Also, Pinkie does share colors with her family. She ts her pink mane from her father, who has a severely grayed pink and purple mane. She shares her eyes with her mom. I’m guessing the pink is a recessive trait, perhaps from Granny Pie.(Who isn’t Surprise, since she’s in the Wonderbolts right now)
 
And Twilight shares basic traits with her parents, obviously.

While this is my headcanon for rainbow dash as well. I like firefly being her big sister.

Sorry, but I disagree. Lauren Faust said she would have wanted to make Firefly Rainbow’s mummy. It would make sense because both are daredevils; like mother, like daughter.

Yeah, this is the kind of thinking that results in typical trashy Rainbow Dash recolors posing as ‘daughters’. But hey, whatever floats your headcanon, OP, I also prefer G3 or G3.5 Rainbow Dash as her mother instead of Firefly.
 
Because let’s be honest, Firefly ain’t shit compared to Bow Tie.

I’d love to see more of Dash’s family in the future… Season six please.

Of course the real reason I have come up with after digging into the narrative why Pinkie Pie is of her color scheme is because she was supposed to be similar to herself from G3.5; and the reason why the rest of her family looks gray is to emphasise the point that Pinkie’s surroundings as a filly were dull and gray.
 
The picture above doesn’t contain much sense.

Pinkie Pie has a wildly different coat and mane color than that of her parents. And she’s hardly the only example of such a thing, Twilight Sparkle herself doesn’t share her coat color or most of her mane color with her parents. If that can happen, then there’s no reason why Firefly can’t be Rainbow’s mother.
