Adventuring is Magic: Maud PieMaud Pie is a Geomancer. Though Earth-Ponies are incapable of channeling mana into practical magic unaided, Maud relies on an artifact called “The Mantle of Geomancy”, a should girdle that instills the wearer with power over earth and stone. The Mantle is a family heirloom, and it’s possible it only works for members of the Pie bloodline.Though not inclined to fighting, Maud is very capable of protecting herself in danger, and a known to be a fierce avenger against any threat posed to her family.I always knew I wanted to make Maud a Geomancer, but I realized I had written myself into a corner when I asserted that only unicorns can cast magic intuitively. Everyone else has to find some other method, and this was the best I could do for Maud. I hope it works. XD

Maud’s way of thinking is pretty Earthbender. Or at least I like to think so.
On what ideology are you making that assertion on? You speak as though you’re the final arbiter on what is ultimately fiction.
Now yes, technically if we wanna get into etymology, all “x-mancy” disciplines are all about divination, as that is what the suffix “mancy” refers to. But the suffix has been corrupted overtime, and people assume it to simply mean “control over”. The accurate suffix for that would actually be “-turge” such as a thaumaturge.
I considered calling her a “geoturge”, as that is technically more accurate. But the phrase is awkward to say and ultimately would cause confusion as most people simply are unaware of that distinction. People are readily aware of terms like “pyromancer”, so this just seemed the path of least resistance.
And whether or not it is truly inaccurate is actually a bit of a grey area, seeing as language changes overtime, and by virtue that people almost uniformly refer to the “mancy” suffix in a similar way–well, that’s basically what it means now.
I’m not sure if this is what you’re referring to. But if you’re going to take the time to contradict something, please offer supporting arguments with it.
Maybe for humans, who lack magical power at all.
