That might be the reason, otherwise the magic would just dissipate and leave them vulnerable to another swap, although they could just remove the residual magic blocking the swap, although something tells me shining doesn’t want that

If I had to wager a guess, it’s permanent because now the magic has settled into the body and is blocking another swap. It doesn’t wear off and it won’t affect them again because the spell is repelled by the energy signature left over from it’s first cast. Preventing it from affecting them a second time. Not the best explanation, but it’s the only thing I can think of that would result in this. Basically you have to find a spell/means that’s different to get them to swap again. One that doesn’t get blocked by the spell residue of the first one.
So you get someone else to cast the spell, like, I don’t know. Your sister in law who is far better at magic then you!
