Ah, but when are we being ironic? When are we being unironic? You yourself just called me your friend… without knowing a single thing whatsoever about me.
Perhaps you were cracking wise. Perhaps you weren’t. It’s why the medium is so very flexible.
Think about it in this way: You’ve probably heard the most terrible insult thrown at someone via the internet… but then there’s those moments where the internet rallies in order to give a single old man a decent birthday. You know what I’m talking about.
What I’m getting at is that there’s no definite way to label someone or someplace online as either “good” or “bad”. They can always surprise you and, when you least suspect it, they always will. Maybe the best of intentions weren’t actually intended, but hey, that’s how it worked out. Or, conversely, maybe the best of intentions backfired spectacularly and a shit-load of people died.
It’s never just one or the other. Real life is far too complicated to conform to a standard of good verses evil.
Thus, by what might very well be my own insane logic, I’m not ready to give up on people just yet. Not. Just. Yet.
The internet has to many fedoral agents to really be a friendly place. I’m afraid it can’t be redeemed, my friend. :(
