These two terms are at the very core, quite different.  
It is not “very western thing”. It’s correct thing to separate these two. One is biological, other psychological.

It’s also used to refer to Trans people in Japan especially non-binary people, the same way two-spirit is how Trans people are referred to in certain indigenous populations even though the term technically translates to hermaphrodite.
 
It’s a very western thing to separate the two terms because very few other cultures have separate terms for them outside of Europe and the USA.
 
I know where you are coming from but I have done my research on this it isn’t just a random thought I had.
 
You could also argue that it has been used as a slur against Trans people and that it is therefore fair to reclaim it but I will stick with the first part.

Futanari is Japanese term for hermaphrodite, not trans person.

it is common among real world futas to be very socially shy people from childhood right into adulthood, it’s actually because of this that I related to Futashy so much and then formed such an emotional link to Fluttershy in general, in my head she is a canon trans mare (a.k.a futa) and it’s a combination of that and her history of growing up with such a secret that made her so shy.
