There’s a part of me that really wishes the team that does the Equestria Girls movies had teased a deleted scene that made it look like they would, with a last second fake out of some kind. They put up with a lot, so they ought to have a chance to repay it in kind.

Okay but you’ve missed the whole point of the sarcastic double-quote here; it’s hilariously, hypocritically obtuse to insist that IT’S TOTES NOT ABOUT WAIFU-THIEFING, MAN then turn right around and give a primary reason that expressly boils down to… “waifu-thiefing”. That other BP invalidated his own argument before he was even finished making it, because it was perfectly clear despite all protestations to the contrary that the real reason for the Flash Hate wasn’t the “without any effort” part, but the “well developed and beloved character” part. It wouldn’t have mattered who got put in as a lowball love interest crush for Twilight In Monkeyworld, or how he was presented; he was gonna get hated hardcore regardless, solely for being the one who committed the unforgivable crime of… bumping into Twilight and making her blush. If you can’t see that there’s more going on than just “without any effort” when a character who has so little establishment or subsequent development draws such enormous volumes of such venemous hatred, I dunno what to tell you.

…Sort of thing. Principal Celestia and VP Luna didn’t really do anything useful either, and the Shadowbolts were all new characters who pretty much just showed up and had some lines while Principal Ratchet twirled her imaginary moustachio and did all the villainin’, but nobody founded any seething hate clubs over them. There were plenty of people who complained– at the time and since– that Flash was a cardboard cutout who didn’t have much to do, but it’s a long stretch from “disappointed and maybe a little disgusted that a ‘main’ character was given so little development” to “two years later and screaming ninnies turn a front page Featured Image of Flashlight into a thundering shitshow that generated something like half a dozen bans and twenty or more deleted comments”.

It’s a load of bullshit, really, that people still clinging to that stupid belief that Flash is hated purely because of waifu, it’s kinda look silly today. But looks like you getting your “whole fandom admitting” thing judging by a bunch of vocal individuals from this site.  
I dislike Flash in a first place for his lack of relevance and development, his stereotypical bad guitar boy that has a sleek hair and drives a cool car appearance, the way he was smashed in a “love interest” position with a well developed and beloved character from the get go without any effort, development and reason, and then everything else.

I thought that we as a fandom had just admitted to ourselves by now that the reason so many people hated Flash Sentry from the get-go is because stupid waifu bullshit.

I think people’s real issue with him might just be that he did nothing at all. He’s in the Equestria Girls movies the absolutely bare minimum amount necessary to fulfill his role and that’s all, to the point that you can almost feel the writers’ resentment at having to include him at executive request.
 
In this case “minimizing the damage” feels like it was a self-fulfilling prophecy, Flash was a dud because they did nothing but prepare for him being a dud.

The funny thing is that he actually didn’t. He’s spent three movies doing literally nothing but being kind of an awkward goofball, and people just dump an explosive amount of hate on him over cliches he could potentially represent but doesn’t actually embody.

He did nothing right either.
