You need to be VIP to buy stuff that used to be unlocked at certain XP, or just unlocked. It wasn’t enough to have ponies that cost 300+ gems. Now you have to UNLOCK THEM by in-game purchases, and to reach the highest VIP level you have to spend, if I’m not wrong, $1016.64 USD (using MXN, my currency, as reference). After you unlock them by spending real money, then you can buy them by spending game money.
Because muh shekels.
