a bit late but… did they kick you DURING the raid? because if so that just shows how retarded they were lol
Depends. Roots and Sign are damn good, but they’re more story based, Legend of the Twilight’s story is worse but more accurate concerning parties tackling dungeons, and Quantum is by far the best on both fronts but is too short for it to really shine through. .hack thus becomes kind of an odd mix between being accurate to MMOs and too story-driven to keep the MMO thing grounded in realism.
just once, I want to see a H2PiE story where the cast are all compassionately eager to return the protagonist to his family and friends and she’s like “NO FEFF THAT I’M STAYING HERE FOREVER” and they have to freaking hunt her down.
and she escapes every time.
I might even write it myself.
Tangentially related, but its always sort of struck me weird that if you have a “modern character gets transported to a fantasy world” story that they always in the end decide that what they really wanted was to go back to living a mundane life in world where they aren’t a celebrated hero, and in fact would be regarded as insane if they ever tried to tell anyone about the stuff they did.
I mean, ok I get that they got family back on earth and whatnot, and they want to slam home some stupid moral about how the real treasure was at home all along, and no one ever found happiness by striking out more than 40 miles from where they grew up and all… but it always feels really dumb to me.
but but it doesn’t count as deep and meaningful if the fantasy characters slinging spells around don’t have to deal with mundane reality, coming to terms in the end with how they always wanted all along to live modestly, having uneventful, insignificant lives in a perpetually sunny land full of cicadas, living in little insular neighborhoods with almost no auto traffic and houses constructed with paper doors.
“DON’T STAND IN THE FUCKING FIRE, YOU FUCKTARDS!”
>In raid as healer
>/kicked because DPS was too low
the s*** we put up with…
I say this as someone who usually plays DPS. I get along with 90+% of healers and tanks because I know that as a DPS my first job is to not make things harder for them.

You forgot .hack aka the best mmo anime.
@gasmaskangel
Fucking this.
It isn’t even about attitude, really. If you’re DPS and you pull stuff before the tank is ready, all healing you will accomplish is making me die second. If I wait and hope the tank gets things under control, maybe some of us will live. Triage! Sorta.
I think Lion-grey is doing a ponyfication of that one too
Better tag that
Edited because: Rule #7
so becoming a cheeky bastard who demands respect is really the only positive response you can do
Actually there’s a sub-subgenre where a guy plays an MMO but then gets transported in an actual fantasy universe too
I think they assume that you won’t identify with the MC if he doesn’t start out as a VG-playing dork and is actually born in a magical universe
Overlord as well… though technically it doesn’t stay an mmo when you get pulled into that reality I guess.
Overlord is a thing too.
@Blissey1
Guess I know which anime i’m watching this weekend.
Seriously? you mentioned those but didn’t mention .hack//Sign?
@gasmaskangel
A lot of them have a you can’t log out/you die in the game you die for real kind of thing going on.
I would actually really recommend .hack//sign. contrary to what you may think when you hear an anime about an MMO, it actually has a ton of talking/introspection, more than any other anime I’ve watched. It’s actually pretty interesting.
