Definately NOT a bot!
@Vinyl Fluff
Not really. Yeah, with hundreds of fans watching the show, someone comes up with a name right away, but one guy would have trouble naming every character with a speaking role in every single episode.
Creativity is difficult.

What the Fluff?
@Vinyl Fluff
Yeah, but they gotta pay somebody to do that, and it takes time to come up with something good, so it’s a nice thought, but prety unrealistic.

Eh? Random DHX employee: “Yeah, (name) sounds good. Everyone think (name) is alright? OK, (name) it is.” That’s all it would take. And would solve so many arguments.

To be fair, it sounds bad to us because we’re not dragons. Clearly most dragons take pride in roughness, even females. She’d probably be proud if her name was Belcher.
On the same note, Prominence and Bunsen are likely too science/egghead related to be dragon names.

I still think it sounds off. If we use another example, let’s say she wanted the greeting to be a fart, how many people would support her being dubbed “Farter”, “Gassy” or some other variant referencing farts?

I have no idea where the Prominence name came from, and only caught have the discussion on “Bunsen.” I agree with it sounded too scientific. But I still think “Burple” fits in better because it’s odd enough to sound fantasy-ish, while still being two legitimate references.

It’d be nice if DHX Media just named every character with a speaking role, instead of giving them a generic credit like “Angry Pony” or “Talking Dragon.”

I prefer Belcher over Burple partially because Belcher is an actual word (much like Garble, Vex, Spike, Torch, and Ember). Burple isn’t a real word, and thus doesn’t fit with any of the other official names.

“Belcher” sounds horrible for a female. If this were a male dragon it still would be a little wonky but it wouldn’t be as bad. For a female, it sounds downright terrible. At least “Burple” has a bit of fantasy element to it.

I saw a (IMO) better name used by someone else in another image. Burple. Simple, two-syllable name that combines both her apparent love for gastric expression, her color, and it fits in with “Garble” as a non-fire-themed name.

I was a proponent of “Bunsen” early on because I sensed a definite pattern.
Canonically named dragons without fiery names:
Spike
Garble
Canonically named dragons with fiery names:
Fizzle
Crackle
Ember
Torch
I know, I know. “Correlation does not equal causation” and what not, but there IS a correlation here.

Don’t know if you saw my earlier post, but I suggested “Flare” or “Flair” as an alternative, but frankly anything other than belcher is probably an improvement.

It’s not the best name, but it really fits with the established draconic naming conventions in FiM.

There aren’t really many naming conventions to begin with - like all Dragons in FiM there aren’t really any hard and fast rules at to what they can and can’t be called, or even what they look like. Sure there’s the occasional fire-related name, but even that’s not a consistent thing. “Belcher” isn’t a name I’d really give anyone, even a Dragon. It just sounds silly.
