God that hurt to type!
Hasbro: What’s that, you want to see more of Pinkamena so you can have a ‘The past shapes you for the future’ message? TOO BAD! That episode is non-canon now!
(Well not really non-canon but I wouldn’t be surprised if they said that in terms of Pinkie’s depressing past)…
It’s like she’s killing her other self.
Feels deep bro.
I think it’s that… You can’t just rip the past like that. The past shapes who we are, either in concert with our surroundings, or in reaction against it. Pinkie Pie is clearly an example of the latter. However, she has been shown to be carrying some major baggage from her dour upbringing; she’s got serious self-esteem issues that she hides behind a mask of extreme extroversion. She spends so much energy keeping it up, that on the rare occasions when it cracks, she loses her grip on reality (or arguably regains it). In fact, Pinkie shows plenty of symptoms of being manic-depressive or outright bipolar, and she appears to self-medicate by trying to keep herself in “manic” mode all the time, but that just makes the inevitable crashes even worse. It’s quite tragic, really. Especially because we all know Hasbro will never ever allow the darker side of Pinkie’s personality to be explored again, regardless of how positive a message it could send to kids that might themselves want to forget their own pasts.
TL;DR - Pinkie is living in Denial. It’s not healthy.
I feel like a lot of art will focus on Pinkie as she is, Pinkie as she was, or Pinkie reverting to how she was.
This is refreshing.
