Don’t try to force your headcanon down in people’s throats okay, they are not official ages, if we hear what Spike’s actual age is in the show officially, then we talk about ages. But as of now is just your opinion, nothing else.
Edited
Who knows what will happen between the two of them.Everyone thought he was over Rarity but his feeling for her is still alive he didn’t show any loving for Ember he only see her as a friend.
It’s not a required part, especially when there’s so much in the way of it going anywhere.
A crush is something that can pass through a character’s life.
I’m not fighting to make ANY ship work and I’m not upset. I’m enjoying this discussion, actually.
Wait, I uploaded something that… OH, when I was ghost posting for an artist.
The “normal rules” is where I point out that he doesn’t go to the school, doesn’t spend any time with the youngsters and instead stays with the “adults”, but also is given responsibilities that folks normally wouldn’t give a child.
Is he classified as a child by the creators? Umm, sure? Your links seem to prove it. I’m just saying that an exact age hasn’t been nailed down.
I’m not trying to “find a loophole so that I enjoy pedo content”, I’m just discussing the aspects of a character.
>Why isn’t he hanging out with the CMC or pipsqueak?
Maybe they think he’s a weirdo dork. They’re not exactly wrong you know.
>Why isn’t he at the school?
Okay, that is sort of a good point. Though it does NOT refute the fact that Spike is a child. I mean studying with Celestia’s personal pupil ain’t too shabby as far as schoolin’ is concerned.
>he’s hanging out with Big Mac, someone who should be vastly too old
Yes, because nerds never, ever hang with people who have similar interests as them if they’re children. Can’t let people think they’re losers or anything, right?
>The normal rules of age just don’t apply right to Spike
????
>in canon material, Spike doesn’t match the benchmarks for what this world has established a child is.
Where does it define that? Your opinions are not evidence you know.
>Is Spike a child?
Oh yes. And that’s okay, too. You apparently don’t think Spike being a child is okay. That honestly sounds shallow on your part.
So far, your entire argument has revolved around “But they didn’t specifically say this particular number, so therefore my headcannon, TRUE age of Spike that incidentally is nowhere near what they are saying and incidentally allows me to ship Spike with adult mares and not be shotacon is just as valid! HA!”
Also, what favorites? You have only one. Though, I see some of your uploads with Spike are tagged “Foalcon”. Does that grind your gears?
But you know what? You jump through whatever mental loopholes you need to make your ship(s) work.
I’ll leave you alone.
he’s too mature to hang out with fillies
I agree. I believe that at the moment they are great friends with some chivalrous, platonic romance. When Spike grow up, I hope that these relations will grow into something more.
Of course not, because even the best friends are not obliged to laugh at silly jokes to each other.
Also their were shipteasing and closefriends moments thoughtout S4/s5 and shipteasing in “Gaunlet of Fire”I do love the relantionship they got now and i hope one day Spike fantasy become true but one thing can i ask in this episode when she rolled her eyes that doesn’t hurt sparity doesn’t?
Is Spike a child? Why isn’t he hanging out with the CMC or pipsqueak? Why isn’t he at the school? Instead he’s hanging out with Big Mac, someone who should be vastly too old. It can’t be babysitting because he’s trusted to run a library by himself. Oh yes, he’s also employed as soon as the series starts, working in the Canterlot library.
The normal rules of age just don’t apply right to Spike, and I’m not just talking about his growth spurt, I’m talking in general.
Maybe I’m using “heresay” in the wrong manner, wouldn’t be the first time I’ve used the wrong word when trying to clarify a topic. The problem is that, even in what you’re showing as canon material/notes, everyone says “About” and “around”, not “he IS”. Yes it holds more weight, but isn’t exact.
But back to the point; in canon material, Spike doesn’t match the benchmarks for what this world has established a child is.
This isn’t some excuse to “be fond of spike shotacon”, this is just what I’m seeing in the character. Feel free to dig through my favorites.

Interesting topic. Rarity (and everyone) knew Spike is gaga for Rarity, however, Spike has not made any true moves on it…
Until Secret of my Excess. He first gave up his own cherished birthday gift to Rarity because her happiness meant more to him than eating it, even when it came to his own birthday. Her happiness and his fondness for her was the only thing that stopped his rampage as well as nothing twilight or any of the others did even slowed him down. The final part was upon the two of them falling off the mountain; Spike finally wanted to confess his feelings to her, but she silenced him since she already knew, yet the motion of him confessing those feelings brought her to tears. What is their “relationship” right now? Well, close friends, considering she is one of two who has ventured to several exceedingly dangerous places with him to ensure he’s safe.
What would a plot be where she rejected him? That was the original pitch for the episode that turned into “Spike at your service”, but it was rejected because “it was an episode all about Rarity being mean to spike and it just didn’t fit the character.”
So… take that as you will.
Oh ok i see what you mean about flash sentry/Twilight.But can i ask you this if there be a episode where Rarity turn him down how would they end episode and she knows about his crush why havsn’t she reject him yet?
All of those ages are that of a child, so they are all consistent to the topic we’re discussing: Is Spike a child canon?
All the examples I gave are from people who work with this character, who write him occasionally in stories that are deemed CANON in this fandom. Including the very individual that conceptualized and created this fictional character, and therefore has a much greater insight on “Who is Spike?” than all the in-denial-about-liking-shotacon Spike fans who love his R34.
But none of that matters, because in your opinion, Spike is inconsistent.
Yeah, I don’t think you understand the meaning of hearsay bro.
Lets see… 8… 7… 10… and they don’t have any set age that they can actually think of him as being at, which was my entire point in that there is no true consensus on his age, it’s all heresay. One day, he’s 8, one day, he’s 10. One day, he’s outwitting the mane 6, the next day, he loses a battle of wits with a rock.
Spike is a staggeringly inconsistent character, that’s the long and short of it, and they have done little to set anything about him in stone, ESPECIALLY after Lauren left.

Ok, well, Twilight Sparkle has a pretty firmly established character and one aspect of said character is that she’s a total nerd and doesn’t usually see the personal aspects that others express in normal social situations. She has NEVER shown affection to anyone or anything other than books in that “I’m gonna take you to bed and have my hooves all over you” manner.
So, when Equestria Girls came out, one small plot point was that a male student named Flash Sentry bumped into her. She instantly fell for him, despite him being a completely different species, and despite her having never shown any inclination to have affection towards anyone of the actual show. Flash also had no real personality other than showing up once to prove twilight was innocent of the crime she was accused of.
Flash had no personality other than “that one dude”. Seriously. Watch the first EG movie.
Twilight went and completely doubled back on her entire character development, broke character to HAVE feelings for this random new guy, and said new guy had no real personality anyone can talk about other than “he kinda helped her once.”
There is no way the fanbase would be happy in the slightest if they brought a similar character into the show, had Spike suddenly throw out all his Rarity affection (one of his few consistent aspects) and had him fall for a new character.
Thankfully, it seems they had that chance and passed on it with Gauntlet of Fire, which was him merely doing the right thing for Ember (saving her life) and insisting they were friends afterwards.
I know who Flash sentry is but can you explain to me what happen of what your talking about?
I almost remeber jim saying their fintincal charaters with no confirm ages also is said not not wrong to ship him with older charaters.
Ps was it mean for Rarity to do this since she close him or she did this because Spike was being silly?
man i almost forgot those 2. not to metchten donkey and dragon have kids as well and most likely dragon is centuries older than him
Faust: Elementary. I think of him as about 8 in maturity.
Spike is at least 7-10 years younger than Twilight in pony years.
This entire exchange between the writers and a sparitard.
When it comes to the topic of whether Spike is a child. There is no discussion, that’s like saying whether or not Twilight’s a horse.
>judging how old Twilight was when she hatched him, which most folks see her as being around 5,6, or 7
>most folks
Now that sounds like hearsay, fam. Unless you’ve got evidence.
Find me some consistent information regarding Spike age and we’ll have a discussion. As it is now, it’s mostly heresay and judging how old Twilight was when she hatched him, which most folks see her as being around 5,6, or 7 considering how young and utterly immature she is, possibly rivaling the CMC in how young she was.
@Background Pony #E582
They might? Depends on what the writers feel like doing.
@Background Pony #E582
here is the problem: Who has Spike shown love and affection for. No, not in a family/friendship way, but a LOVE way? Rarity has been the only one. Ember? Pushed to be friends but was perfectly happy leaving her. CMC? Considers himself too old to mingle with them (most likely is) thus spends next to no time with any of them.
He hasn’t shown any interest in anyone or… anyTHING else through the course of the show, so it would be a very sour taste in the mouth of most viewers if a random character popped up and Spike “grew a loving relationship with them”.
Remember Flash Sentry and how well THAT went over? IE: Not at all?
Yes, I sure wonder why they would think that.
I mean it’s not like the show staff have repeatedly stated Spike’s a child or anything.
Oh wait…
Hey, if they tank the Sparity stuff she can be with the person she was always meant to be with.
Me. >:)
Do you think they might do s Sparity episode in the future but there nothing wrong with the intertions they been having isn’t.Also peaple still like interspecious thing i seen a music video last night made be DJ Mustard called “Don’t Hurt Me.“it had a bug making out with a bat, then with a snake/mouse and a white whale/squid.
The Lion Guard got away with a whole birthing/labor scene and showcasing pregnancy, and it’s basically MLP but with lions.
The difference is that one is VERY popular, the other isn’t.
The less popular something is, the less people will be able to bring up drama and the less likely the media can latch on.
